There’s an article in the Telegraph today about why they won’t start play earlier than 1.30 on Centre Court. The reasons given are:

• those with tickets have been told play won’t start before 1.30 so if that changes they might not get there in time (or not in time to have lunch first) and there will be complaints
• if play starts earlier lots of ticketholders might still be having their lunch so the players would come out to lots of empty seats
• concern about the state of the grass if the playing hours are extended.

Sounds like the reason play starts later on the show courts is money - they want to make sure people have time to spend money on food and drink before settling down to watch the tennis!

Interesting about the grass conditions... what about the grass on other courts where play starts earlier

I understand that lunches and things is a big money spinner but they could have a match and it's more if anyone is around can watch of like there's a break where people can get lunch somehow. Not thought out the details properly

In the olden days play didn’t start on centre court until 2pm - I think the late start is to cater for the corporate and hospitality ticket holders who probably have a nice sit down 3 course lunch

I guess the other courts aren’t used for high profile matches later in the tournament so it’s not quite so important to keep the grass in tip top condition!

I think it mostly looks strange because she has such long legs. It would look better on a shorter player.

Martic’s dress is fine but I agree it looks like it’s been made for a shorter player. The waistband is too high. Dresses look like that on me because I am fat and have a mahoosive chest so waistbands are never where they should be. She doesn’t have that excuse!
