I'm absolutely not a fan of Djokovic - he's a great player - why do you think Wimbledon has never loved him like other champions?

Yetisrus · 08/07/2023 06:42

Urgh he's so smug, he even smirks when he knows he's winning. Yes he's a great player but he's so bloody smug and it makes him unlikeable. I wanted him to be the shock exit this year.

Does anyone else feel like the week has dragged and been the longest week? I can't believe there's another week still.

I was saying this yesterday. Yeah he might be GOAT if it’s only about titles but he’ll never be loved the way Federer was.

IceandIndigo · 08/07/2023 08:52

I couldn’t bring myself to watch Stan after the other disappointments of the day.

My DS, who’s 4, is picking up some of the names of players. This morning he randomly yelled out “Djoko-bitch!” Grin

Fizzywinegum · 08/07/2023 09:03

Djoko-bitch Grin

I just don’t think that Djok is a nice person and he’s got some pretty strange views. The general public aren’t daft and just don’t really like him.

The sad thing is that he really wants to be loved and that makes people dislike him even more - the hand to his ear thing really makes me cringe

mazylou · 08/07/2023 09:31

Yeah, that's kind of what I mean - he has to almost beg for the applause. Hopefully someone will surprise him - but he'll never have the love.

StefanosHill · 08/07/2023 09:46

I don’t feel the same about Djok

I mean I don’t love him, certainly king same feelings as say Federer

But he’s excellent at the sport. The only downside is he wins so much it can be a bit of a done deal

I’d like someone to challenge him to title not because I feel badly about him but because it would shake up the game

IceandIndigo · 08/07/2023 09:49

It’s super humid in London today and lightly raining, hope there isn’t too much disruption at the tennis.

Yetisrus · 08/07/2023 10:12

I do kind of feel sorry for him, he's a bloody good player and that's due to his talent and dedication so it must frustrate/get to him that the crowd (especially at Wimbledon) don't get behind him.

As I said earlier I just find him smug, they panned into his face when he knew he was going to win and he had a smirk on it. He doesn't come across as humble and us Brits don't like that. Federer and Nadal have that. I really want to like him as he's such a good player.

StefanosHill · 08/07/2023 10:15

The only player I think I’ve had an issue with and take a disliking to is Kyrios

Although enough time has passed that I can recognise a lethal serve

Phos · 08/07/2023 10:27

I agree with @StefanosHill about the fact it feels like a done deal. The mens competition feels like a waste of time. I do differ in that I can and do certainly appreciate how brilliant he is at the sport without liking the man.

I can't warm to Kyrgios either. It's a damn shame because if he had a better temperament, I rather suspect he would be the person challenging Djokovic and sharing the titles right now. Bit like the Ronnie O'Sullivan of tennis (but he did at least sort his head out, some of the time at least)

StefanosHill · 08/07/2023 10:43

Apols for getting name slightly wrong - feels like an entry requirement for a Wimbledon thread ;

Agree Kyrgios could be one to shake up the game but he needs to drop that unfair and un sporting verbal aggression

I solved the mystery of who was lying down on the screen behind Tim last night

I saw that Jane - both players were completely exhausted - the umpire looked a bit concerned for them

Just trying to do a bit of tidying up before tennis watching but it’s very humid here. Going to DM’s later but luckily she’s a tennis fan - some good matches coming up (hopefully)

Raahh · 08/07/2023 11:55

it is very humid and muggy here- up to my neck in house chaos since ds moved out. I'm taking him some stuff in a bit - not sure how much I will get to watch this afternoon.

I really wanted to watch the Rune /ADF match- their match in Madrid was a lot of fun (with a bit of unpire beef thrown in). Very close- and Rune will want revenge. I'm sure the first thing the commentator mention will be the scrubbed out clay mark. Hmm
Neither are totally comfortable on grass yet, so it could be interesting . And I will miss it Sad

JaneJeffer · 08/07/2023 12:02

Not looking forward to that chat Raahh 🙉

Jane I can already imagine how it will go.

And how many times they will repeat the same thing.

I really like both of them, but I would like Holger to get through- sets up an interesting second week.

I have everything crossed Hubi can find his A plus game tomorrow.
