At last itv is showing this. It’s been on ITVX and looked fab. Right up my street !!!

so yes some of you may have seen. Many like me Havnt

Stephen Richards, a self-made man, has built a cosmetics empire and become a strong advocate for Black-owned businesses.

Set in a London which seems to enjoy a permanent Instagram filter, the death of the family’s patriarch and the company’s CEO Stephen (Hugh Quarshie) – not a spoiler, it happens in the first ten minutes – prompts an inevitable explosion when it becomes clear that he has left his business to his estranged children from his first marriage, in America, rather than his British family.

Of course, the two sides go to war for control of the multi-million pound enterprise.

We begin with the death of patriarch Stephen Richards (Hugh Quarshie), chief executive of a leading beauty company proudly run for, and by, black people.

The expectation is that his son Gus (Ola Orebiyi) will now take charge and look after the interests of his mother and two younger sisters.

But what Stephen bequeaths his next of kin is a serious shock.

His business empire isn’t being left to the children he raised, but those he abandoned in the US 30 years earlier.

What follows is scene after scene of histrionics and hostilities: bowls are hurled, rooms are stormed out of, lawyers are wielded. For the New York-based marketing executive Nina (Deborah Ayorinde) and stylist brother Simon (Emmanuel Imani), this is an opportunity to reclaim a company co-founded by their mother.

For Stephen’s “main” family, it’s an unpalatable humiliation and a threat to their cosseted lifestyles. “What am I supposed to do with £20k a month?” snaps wife Claudia (an enjoyably combustible Sarah Niles).

Running parallel to the melodramatic power struggles are moments that reflect on the precariousness of black privilege and the freedoms from prejudice that money can’t buy. Urgent observations though these are, it can be hard to reconcile the meaty topics with the hamminess of the execution.

So who has stolen the 20 million

Plus confused at ending

So the mum of 3 - 2nd wife - was shagging the younger black man

And Nina is shagging the son of the secret share holder - to get his shares ?

Nina doesn't know he's the son of the shareholder at this point. Although I've not watched episode 4 yet...

purpleme12 · 21/07/2023 23:53

I've just watched episode 3.
Really liking this.
And I love Nina's red glittery dress

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/07/2023 08:12

I didn't make e4 as tired so will watch hopefully later today

But I assumed @purpleme12 that Nina knows he's the son hence why befriending /shagging him

Seems a huge coincidence that he has the shares they want and she suddenly is in a relationship with him

You’ve got to remember it’s all about intrigue Blondes.

Ive been watching Ted Lasso and interested that Sarah Niles, who’s Claudia, is playing a very down to earth, multilingual and savvy psychologist in that. She’s got a really distinctive voice.

No at this point only the 'evil' mum and the man she's having sex with knows.

Hence the intrigue that we know but she doesn't.

But I haven't watched episode 4 yet. I'll watch it tonight

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/07/2023 10:12

Oh so he's playing her

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 22/07/2023 21:24

I don't think he's playing her

purpleme12 · 22/07/2023 22:42

Oh my god it's gripping this

No, neither of them know who each other is. Remember they met on Tinder or similar and used aliases, neither knows each others real name, or anything about the other.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/07/2023 21:56

He knew who she was

As when they started to talk - he said Claudia didn't say it like that

There is no way he didn't google Nina who his dad has shares with and releise it was her

I was surprised at their mum
Having cousins shares and voting against Nina

Well done youngest daughter siding with her

Felt for her that her bf blabbed to newspaper and possibly why not company is taken over

I still want to know what is in the safe

And Stephen squired
Away 20 million to Switzerland ?

He said 'Claudia didn't say it like that' after she'd told him who she was and that she was the CEO of Flair & Glory and that he's been plotting with her stepmother.

Starseeking · 23/07/2023 23:46

He knew who she was

I don't think he did; when Nina accused him he reminded her that his Dad had not long passed away and he was still getting to know all the companies in which he had inherited shares.

Remember their Tinder names were something like Asianhunk and Brooklynbabe, so they only discovered each other's true names at the reveal.

purpleme12 · 23/07/2023 23:57

Yes this too

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/07/2023 08:21

Once Claudia spoke to him he would have def Googled her

So yes didn't know at the beginning but I think he def knew when he pressed her for her name outside and she was secretive

Oh

Tonight's was good

The plot deepens

OP posts:
martinisforeveryone · 29/07/2023 14:37

Yes, there are more twists and turns than I'd anticipated at first.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/07/2023 16:00

So who do we think stole the money

Claudia ?

Or maybe lawyer ?

And who is youngest dad

OP posts:
martinisforeveryone · 29/07/2023 16:18

Dunno about the other Dad. There's definitely something we don't know about Maureen, but I don't think that's the money, I think she was too loyal and she was left a hefty sum wasn't she.

I don't think it was Claudia, I get the idea she thought she'd got the perfect life as it was.

If I had to guess I'd suspect the lawyer. Access to all the information and what Stephen was up to, even what he was thinking. He's looking to make himself just a bit too cosy and useful. I don't trust him.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/07/2023 16:26

I’m thinking the lawyer

he’s well known Brandon coyle

OP posts:
butterpuffed · 29/07/2023 18:20

I think maybe it was the lawyer too , he seems too helpful and nice to be true .

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/07/2023 18:39

Actually thinking about it. It can't be the lawyer

As they studied the laptop (Nina and lawyer) they said along the lines it was obvious who it was following the paper /online trail

So can't be lawyer

They then arrested Claudia's lover - can't R.E.M. his name but then Nina said in the car she knew it wasn't him but not to say anything or words to that effect while they caught the thief
