Do they film everything? Is it live? How does it work? Is most of it on the iPlayer?

I watch it every year.
They put the big acts on I player
They don't film everything, but obviously the big headliners are put on the main channels , sometimes it's bbc one , but mostly on 2 it bbc 3.
Usually starts on the Friday night I think ?
Macca was on very late last year on Saturday night due to a time delay

ForestLilac · 08/06/2023 21:27

@the80sweregreat oh great, thanks.

Is there any way of finding out who they will film or is it just whoever takes their fancy at the time?

And I suppose some will be on the radio? I’ve never cared too much about it before but I’ll make an effort this year to listen to some new stuff.

Lots of stuff on iplayer and/or red button so you can choose what you want to watch. They broadcast live but on a delay so they can bleep out anything unsavoury. I watch every year with my heart saying “I wish I was there” and my head saying “thank fuck I’m on my cosy sofa with a proper bed to sleep in later” 😉

the80sweregreat · 08/06/2023 21:36

I've never been myself , I doubt I ever will, but I like the coverage and a lot of the acts.
Crowded house last year were great
It is on the radio too , I think radio two , but can't be sure
Might be a good idea to buy a radio times that week as they will have all the information and who is presenting

RampantIvy · 08/06/2023 21:43

I usually watch it every year. Far more comfortable from my sofa and a proper bathroom than being there Grin

SellFridges · 08/06/2023 21:44

Main channels will have a magazine type programme with a mix of live, recorded and interview segments. Red button you can usually select any of the main stages to watch live.

I’m going so have a lot of things set to record!

Wyndam · 08/06/2023 21:56

It's the main stages. Pyramid, Other, West Holt's, Park, John Peel. They film it all for the screens on stage but not every band allows the broadcast on the BBC eg Leonard Cohen 2010. The headliners and the majority of acts will be. There's about 30 other stages/venues that don't make it to TV at all.

the80sweregreat · 08/06/2023 22:02

They will definitely have Elton John on bbc on Saturday night.
I hope it's not delayed , but sometimes the headline acts are because of broadcasting rules or something.

covetingthepreciousthings · 08/06/2023 22:02

The coverage on the BBC is a good mix I've found over the last few years, and they also have interviews and small acoustic sets.

They obviously can't film everything, but the main stages / tents get shown, the red button has more acts and you can flick through live or watch back.

I do believe though in the past some artists haven't agreed to be shown on the BBC, and some don't agree to it being live broadcast so it's shown the next day etc, I presume after their teams have had chance to edit it etc.. I can't remember which event it was but I remember Eminem wouldn't let them record his set one year.

ForestLilac · 08/06/2023 22:03

Oh good idea to get the Radio Times that week, thanks.

Unfortunately I don’t have the red button access, does that mean I’m going to miss a lot?

OP posts:
ForestLilac · 08/06/2023 22:08

Oh wait - do I have red button access maybe? I watch via the BBC iPlayer app on my iPad or mobile, googling tells me I do have access. Does it only appear when there is something live on?

OP posts:
Jellykat · 08/06/2023 22:12

I watch every year, always have!
Not sure about the red button on the iplayer app, but i know on bog standard telly, red button only functions when theres an event on i.e Glasto, Wimbledon etc..

GellerYeller · 08/06/2023 22:19

The BBC throw huge amounts of resources and staff at it every year- you’ll definitely be able to see loads of it either live or via i player. I seem to remember when they showed Bowie’s last headline set recently they said he’d refused to have it shown either in part, or full, at the time of recording.

ForestLilac · 09/06/2023 00:17

Ok, hopefully it’ll appear when there’s something to see on there then. I’m getting excited now 😁.

Do I need anything else? Scones, jam and cream?

Do I need anything else? Scones, jam and cream?

If you want, but a few ciders would be more authentic for the full experience :)

ForestLilac · 09/06/2023 12:24

Ha ha! Sadly I don’t drink but would apple juice be okay? 🤔😁
