Who or what spoils a show for you?

I’ve just been watching old episodes of Inspector Linley. His offsider played by Sharon Small is for me, totally annoying. All she really does is blink her eyes & look longingly at her boss. Always misses obvious clues. I don’t know if another actress would have been any better in the role, but she is woeful.

Hastings in Poirot. So slow to catch on. So sleazy.

polkadotdalmation · 13/05/2023 10:35

Sharon small in Linley always annoyed me too. In fact I didn't like the whole show, the concept annoyed me.

MissyB1 · 13/05/2023 10:36

James Nesbitt in anything.
James Corden in anything.

PollyPeptide · 13/05/2023 10:41

Hastings in Poirot.

Nooo. I LOVE Hastings, with his "I say, Poirot"s. And his long stories of catching crocodiles in the Orinoco. He's a perfect foil for Poirot.

CountTo10 · 13/05/2023 10:56

Anything with Danny Dyer in. All that toxic masculinity.
Amanda Holden. Talentless and egocentric.

Peachy2005 · 25/05/2023 00:24

James Nesbitt is dreadful - he’s just the same in everything.

I love him too 😍.

He's not sleazy ffs! He falls in love with beautiful girls at the drop of a hat. He accepts their rejection with good grace.
That's not sleazy.
And his misunderstanding gives HP the opportunity to explain things to us, the reader/ watcher.

When it’s always the same actors. Sick of Nicola Walker. the guy from Line of Duty, Suranne Jones etc

The lead actor who plays Michael in Star Trek: Discovery. It turned into the Michael show, she seemed to be in every frame, with her looking up at her clearly gigantic fellow actors. It totally spoiled the show and series which was such a shame as there were some great characters who didn't get a look in

I agree with you. It very much became the Michael show. And so subordinate.

Zingy123 · 26/05/2023 16:13

Hastings isn't sleazy in the slightest.

Samcro · 26/05/2023 16:20

Elizabeth in Blacklist. she was just so annoying.

Teenagekicksmyass · 26/05/2023 16:20

Anything with Sean Bean in. Ditto James Nesbit 😂

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 26/05/2023 16:21

James Nesbitt and his one expression.

MissyB1 · 26/05/2023 16:38

I’m glad it’s not just me that has an issue with James Nesbitt!

Agree with this one. She does 'smell the fart' acting. Some of her expressions are so perplexing that I genuinely have no idea what she's supposed to be conveying. Fear? Confusion? Indecision? Constipation? I give in.

Dembe is more expressive and he barely gets to utter two words per episode.

My TV dislikes;

  • Overly long intros. American Gods, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story
  • Needless Mr Fanservice-ing (particular offenders: Jane the Virgin, Never Have I Ever, Insatiable, Arrow, Gregg Sulkin in anything ever.)
  • Previously written out longstanding character appears in a dream
  • "I am having an emotional crisis so I will cut off my own hair."
  • Supposedly charming men not taking no for an answer from hot women. Qv. Jeff from Community. (I know, but still.)

Any tv show with a scene set outdoors at night where they fall back on the good old tried-and-tested sound effects of barking foxes to create tension.

Tayegete · 26/05/2023 16:59

Danny Dyer, Jeremy Clarkson.

love a good drama but get frustrated when it’s someone who continually makes things worse for themselves by lying, hiding things and not contacting the police.
