Catfish question

Random but how do these people always agree to meet with a camera crew but when watching the program they have been avoiding meeting up with the person for years ? Surely a camera being there would make it worse ? Do you think there is some kind of incentive for them?

I've always wondered if they're offered money to do so.

I read that it's often the 'catfish' themselves who contact the programme although it's never presented that way. Like lots of reality tv a lot of it is a set up I think and actually everyone is in on it and they just want their 15 minutes of fame.
