Just rewatched this on I player . Forgotten how good it was . Daniel Craig is superb as Geordie .

It is so good. I watched it at the time (and we lived in the North), and again a few years ago. I find DC a bit wooden in other roles , but he was good in that one.

It’s an amazing series that treats its audience as grown ups. Can’t think of anything like it since. Can you imagine the BBC producing something of this quality today?

minkymini · 07/05/2023 14:37

We last watched it in the 90s . I thought it was great how they showed the characters aging physically. Top quality tv .

I'm planning to watch this. I've never seen it but work colleague was raving about it last week.

Interestingly some if the issues raised in the show from mid 60s till the 90s are still happening now .

JayAlfredPrufrock · 07/05/2023 17:08

Always meant to rewatch this. Thanks for the heads up.

Kaftanesque · 07/05/2023 19:07

I recently rewatched it and enjoyed it just as much as the first time all those years ago.And hearing Oasis at the end made me feel very emotional and sad that I'd finished it.Briliant TV.

Daniel Craig was brilliant. I was surprised when he hit the Bond role.

Gatekeeper · 07/05/2023 20:41

Watched it a couple of months ago. Bloody brilliant...that final scene where they all just stop and look at each other.

minkymini · 07/05/2023 20:58

And at the end when Geordie walks across the bridge like he used to as a young man . Like he's turned the corner With don't look back in anger playing . Brilliant.

MillieMollieMandy1 · 07/05/2023 21:05

I loved this - will watch again.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/05/2023 21:07

I watched when it first came out and again recently. Brilliant. As others have said some things haven't changed much

Zenana · 09/05/2023 21:37

I found it last night on Amazon Prime. Only 9 episodes?

Was just about to say that and I think of it every time I hear the song

EversoDisorganised · 09/05/2023 22:51

Best TV series ever. It's one of the few DVD sets I've hung on to, watched it all again last year when I had covid.

EversoDisorganised · 09/05/2023 22:52

The Radio 4 audio version is good too

JayAlfredPrufrock · 09/05/2023 23:11

Watched the first episode tonight. Omg. So many faces. And I realised when I first fell in love with Christopher Eccleston.

Netaporter · 09/05/2023 23:20

I loved it first time around, I was very early to the DC party 😂

VivaDixie · 09/05/2023 23:25

I loved it when I watched it at the time, I also bought the dvd box set about 20 years ago.
It is my clear favourite TV series ever.

I was upset when it finished at the time but the BBC filled the gap the week after with This Life so all was good
