Anyone else think the winner wasn't chosen for their vocal ability? 🙄

Ur probably right

MrsJamin · 04/05/2023 00:16

Dylan could hardly sing, had a weird unlistenable reedy voice with a strange range. Plus no stage presence. BUT an inordinate amount of woke points.

Just watched it — What happened!?
I thought Mia should have won!

MrsJamin · 06/05/2023 10:35

Well yes, Mia or Nnenna should have won, Dylan will be a songwriter at best but an "icon"?! No. Way. Massive virtue signalling by the BBC.

Mia clearly blew the other two away in the final, as well as being deemed the full package by that guy who advised on the pop videos. Feels like a political decision to pick Dylan, though I liked him well enough and his songwriting is decent if limited. Seemed so fishy, I wondered if Mia had maybe had offers elsewhere so was off-limits in some way. Nnenna was a good singer but her original song was dire and she didn't seem like an icon - felt like the backing singers on her Lizzo track eclipsed her. The best thing about the series though was Frank. Loved his frankness - much needed and oft missing in reality judges. Hope it comes back for another season.

MrsBlueFly · 06/05/2023 17:44

Frank was amazing - def watch for him again!
nenna was not as good in the final and her song/genre is not popular just now. Also her microphone looked to close to her mouth
Dylan was ok - bit unmemorable but inoffensive

let’s face it - none of them are music icon just reality tv fodder

MrsJamin · 07/05/2023 07:34

Mia had the most potential to be commercially successful as dance is very popular right now. Saw some of Dylan's old videos, felt so sad what happened to Dylan.

I think maybe they thought Mia was a bit immature.

Nnenna was talented but more of a backing singer imo.

I thought some of the challenges were bit odd - do singers direct their own videos? Surely they (or their label) hire a professional.

I can't see Dylan as a star in the real world.

I quite enjoyed watching, but I don't think the programme got much traction. This is the first comment I've seen on it.

MrsBlueFly · 07/05/2023 12:06

None of the contestants were star material - I found Frank interesting because the music executives are looking at the ‘stars’ as a viable business

it was an advert for Jason derulo (surprised that the viewing figures weren’t higher)

(bit like that Jamie Oliver recipe book show on channel 4 - I liked the main judge and her decisions on what made a good cookbook)
