I presume to fleece/upset/take advantage of him the way she thought she'd been by Max as some sort of revenge. Or she just needed somewhere to live and knew he was vulnerable?

That character makes her living by suckering the old and vulnerable and siphoning off any assets she can find. Which is what she was doing in the first series when she and Max first met. You have to watch the lot to pick up the many threads.
