The Big Bang Theory new spin off

Maybe my name gives it away but I'm a TBBT fan. Currently working through Young Sheldon and it's such a good spin off. Not sure why they are making another. And even less clue which way it would go.

Anyone fancy a chat about it?

My thoughts are I'd love to see the cast in their 70s. A sort of Golden Girls era but still filled with all the science and geek universe stuff. Then their now adult kids can play the equivalents of Sheldon and Leonards mums in bit parts which contrast against the main characters.

Also, I think they missed a trick never having an episode where Sheldon tries on jeans. Like in The Royle Family where chino loving Jim Royle tries denim jeans for the first time and falls in love. Sheldon is so stuffy with clothes it would have been a good little sub plot.

The Internet isn't telling me anything about anything just that it's in production I thought it was going to have Rajesh in it ! I ll probably watch it although last series of young Sheldon was a bit meh I think its starting to wear thin.

I'd rather they just hurry up and make post S4 of young sheldon available on Netflix!

The problem for me with Young Sheldon is that it didn't work when Sheldon's voice broke and he didn't sound like the adult character - I guess that's the risk with child actors over time.

I think I'm waiting on series 4 or maybe 5 on E4.

I watched young Sheldon but didn’t love it as much as TBBT. Going older makes sense- loved the golden girls.

I really didn't like young sheldon because of the contradictions to what was said in TBBT. It doesn't match up! Was a big TBBT fan until about season 7. The first 4 seasons were the best before it lost all of its unique and witty humour and just became a normal sitcom. The ending really annoyed me. So cliche and making penny pregnant made me want to scream in fury!

Dh feels the same about Young Sheldon the contradictions annoy him.

I'd like to see the adventures of Penny after she leaves Leonard and the baby because A: Leonard is just irritating and whiny and B: she didn't want children.
Maybe she will run of with Raj - not in a romantic way but in the type of brother/sister way like she was with Sheldon (which when you watch Young Sheldon you realise his relationship with Penny was very similar to how he was with Missy).
Not sure what exciting adventures Raj and Penny could have though....
Poor Sheldon is stuck with annoying Amy.
Howard and Bernie - well the whole joke was we never saw the children so I don't know how they could be in it without the kids - because then the joke is gone.
Hmmm....not sure about another spin off.

I will never forgive them for getting Penny to have the baby she clearly never wanted.

Yeah I was furious about the baby thing too. It's just so fucking lazy. Would have been better for Leonard to grown some fucking balls and leave to have a baby with -leslie- someone else. Penny could have then got together with infertile Ex.

Oh I've never given Penny's pregnancy much thought . That's irritating just make her pregnant she will love it eventually!

She was so keen not to have children, it was a dreadful thing to do.

We have so few childfree characters - like when Gabby in Desperate Housewives made that plea not to be seen as a "uterus in high heels" and boom, they made her one. It's like women have no function apart from that.

a really nice spin off would be that Penny actually wasn't pregnant after all, and that she has a fun career and general fun life - goes back to acting? Lots of comedy potential there.

Leonard could also change his mind and not want a baby - that's not something we see on TV.

I hated that Leonard and penny got married, nevermind the pregnancy.

To me their relationship just didn't work.
Always seemed like she'd just settled for nice but dull, and why couldn't she have been a successful actress instead of selling meds.

Leonard's only interest in Penny seemed to be "I have a hot girlfriend". They didn't have much in common.
I didn't like Amy. She changed Sheldon's character so much.
I loved the relationship between Penny and Sheldon (as I said earlier it was very similar to how him and Missy were).
A better ending to the whole thing would have been if Penny hadn't married Leonard, and Sheldon not marry Amy but Penny and Sheldon end up living together as roommates happily ever after - a whole 'odd couple' thing and have lots of fun adventures.
Unfortunately via Young Sheldon we know that Sheldon and Amy stayed married.

Oh I love that ending for Penny and Sheldon, they were such a good pairing. I did like Amy though. Also thought Raj could have got a much better ending.

Do you mean the way Sheldon had always talked about his childhood as being utterly miserable and portraying his dad as a bullying, ignorant thug? And then it turned out his dad was sweet and kind, and Sheldon was surrounded by people who went to extraordinary lengths to accommodate him? Because that’s the whole point and entirely in character, isn’t it?

I am watching Young Sheldon at the moment and had questioned this as I recalled Sheldon not speaking fondly of his father but he is obviously a lovely devoted father in the series (I haven't wanted all of Young Sheldon though!)

@LoobyDop . What Sheldon said in TBBT were direct quotes and memories. Whilst Sheldon is selfish and quite manipulative he has an Eidetic memory and is incapable of lying. So we of course assume its true. Young Sheldon completely goes against things said in TBBT e.g. his dad going and firing his shotgun on the roof. I think its obvious they didn't plan to come out with a more family orientated spin off where what theyd already said wouldn't go well. So they changed it. It was more humorous in the TBBT so I pretend Young sheldon doesn't exist. Better that way anyway given how bad it is. None of the humour of the first few series.

Tbh I watch YS and just watch it for what it is. A vintage family sitcom with brilliant characters, a kid who is challenging, and a narrative from the adult version of the kid over the top. I don't really think about how it compares to TBBT (aside from marvelling at how good the casting is of young Missy, Georgie and Sheldon).

I thoroughly enjoy TBBT and Young Sheldon.
I can't say I noticed contradictions as such. I think it is as PP said more that me-centred Sheldon didn't always see the bigger picture as to why others behaved the way they did.

I think of Young Sheldon being in a parallel universe.

I'd like to see what happens to Missy once Sheldon leaves for California.

Or Raj coming to America and trying to assimilate.

that would have been great, the Peldon was the best bit of the show.
