Top Boy - I watched it all wrong!

I know I'm late to the party but I thought I'd try this as this sort of show is my guilty pleasure (Power, the Wire etc).

Started watching it on Netflix and couldn't really get into it after 4 ish episodes, but couldn't put my finger on why...

It turns out that Seasons 1 & 2 are listed under Top Boy: Summerhouse as they were originally on C4. So I'd started on Season 3.

Strangely enough I like it a lot more now I know wtf is going on.

Why would they do this? Tacking ":Summerhouse" on the end makes it look like a spinoff you'd watch afterwards! Am I a total moron?

I did the same as you and started with "Top Boy", then went on to watch "Summerhouse". IMHO though, Summerhouse feels more like a prequel than series 1 and 2 of the same series, if that makes sense? There's quite a gap in between Summerhouse and Top Boy and lots of different characters so they did feel quite different to me. Having said that, I did spend most of ep 1 of Top Boy feeling that I'd missed something

The original Top Boy series was renamed as summerhouse before the new Top Boy series started. Can't remember exactly why but something to do with distinguishing that they're two separate series but very much linked because of the same history, characters, etc. Not sure why it was t the new series that got renamed!

Probably in part to do with the rights or something

It was because the rights were bought from channel 4 snd the last series was made by netflix and Drake. They had to give it a different name.
