14 in 1981 happy times

MrsTweedy · 14/02/2008 22:29

I actually laughed out loud when Gene said "I'll get me coat".

He did some great glowering tonight

SueBaroo · 14/02/2008 22:30

What the hell was she thinking? Nasty oily little yuppie? Blech. Vile.

But I'm going for the flash car business at the beginning, very amusing.

Not sure what I think of the whole thing. Were there scenes in LoM where Sam wasn't actually involved? Because a lot of things seem to be happening without Alex being present - Gene working out things at the pub and so on. I'm not sure that happened before.

So I'm thinking, is that just because it restricts the plot so much to do that, or is it because there is actually something 'bigger' going on than this just being a fantasy?

Quattrocento · 14/02/2008 22:30

This title is making me nervous

Whizzz · 14/02/2008 22:31

Tonights classic line "You're drunk in charge of a handbag and dressed like a tart again"

MrsTweedy · 14/02/2008 22:32

It's getting a bit odd when she talks about the future eg suicide bombers & then possibly influences events like the son blowing himself up.

madamez · 14/02/2008 22:33

Oh, and nasty yuppie had one of the worst stage Cockney accents since Dick Van Dyke. I'm thoroughly enjoying the music and the visual trimmings (was 16 in 1981) but Alex still irritates the crap out of me and dramatically it isn;t working to have her forever cacking on about how not-real it is. Sam kept a lot of his anxieties to himself, which made it all a bit more engaging and convincing: watching her flounce about you wonder why she's neither been suspended nor sectioned.

SilentTerror · 14/02/2008 22:33

Enjoyed tonights episode.Feeling quite nostalgic for 1981....

Snowstorm · 14/02/2008 22:35

Found Alex less irritating this week ... although am still a bit puzzled as whether DCI's really did go to work in a male dominated environment with off the shoulder tops and chunky bra straps showing - bleah!

Also, and I know this makes me very shallow, the first think I'd have done if I was her would have been to have found a hair bobble and scrape that awful hairstyle back ... she might be back in the 80's ... but she still had access to a mirror did she not?

MrsTweedy · 14/02/2008 22:35

I'd forgotten the weird nappy trousers, very hard to carry off!

SueBaroo · 14/02/2008 22:37

I'm kind of hoping that it's deliberate, madamez - sort of a set up so that she's really cocksure about it all, and then gets a bit of a shock further on.

I loved her outift when she was getting her arse stamped, brilliant red belt. And I do like her eye make-up. But she is quite smug.

VictorianSqualor · 14/02/2008 22:42

Apparently it is going to be much more complex this time, so I think maybe her being so cocksure about it is a big part of teh plot.

booge · 14/02/2008 22:42

Throughly enjoying it for what it is. PG said on Jonathan Ross that they were playing it more for laughs this time and not trying to recreate LOM.

SueBaroo · 14/02/2008 22:44

Oh, and 'We're waiting for you, Alex'

I hate that bleedin' clown.

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/02/2008 22:54

clowns are bloody sinister

Sunshinemummy · 15/02/2008 09:52

I really enjoyed it this week. I think she's fitting more into her character and I laughed out loud when she said to herself about the letetrbomb going to her maj, "I remember that, that's why I've put it in here".

Gene is hot, I think my fantasties are getting out of control, and he looked so sad when he thought she was off with the yuppy.

I love her clothes, I'd happily wear them now! And her make-up when she was going up in the lift to shag the yuppie was fab.

Loving the music. Am about to update 80s playlist on my i-pod with some of the tracks I'd forgotten.

MrsTweedy · 15/02/2008 09:56

There was a bit where she was scrolling through newspapers that said 'Operation Drake' so I think the plot may not be completely straightforward.

Sunshinemummy · 15/02/2008 09:58

Oooh have taped it so will have a look for that shortly MrsTweedy.

TsarChasm · 15/02/2008 10:00

I'm really enjoying it. Don't find her annoying at all.

The yuppie from yesterday....does anyone know what else he's been in? Dh kept on about how he looked familiar.
