I cant remember much about the first series ie PP 1900 but do know I watched them!

Not sure if you need to have watched them to follow what is happening in this sequel PP 1905.

Having watched the first 2 episodes of this I do remember more than I first thought.

But my goodness, it is bleak. Just about everyone is really nasty or out for an advantage.

And our "hero" isn't that inspiring. More dogged than anything else.

But the photography and costumes are wonderful. And dont think I have seen so many well populated crowd scenes in a tv series for a while.

And I am intrigued now of course. Really want to know how this plot will play out.

I keep starting this, and I still haven't finished the first ep! But yes, it is bleak. Life was shit then, especially for women.

Yes I think in the last series they tried to create a sort of liberated woman role, but it seemed far fetched when everything else was so emphatic about women having no play in society.

Have now watch 2 more episodes and it continues to be beautifully shot, with lots of style and interesting lighting.

But there doesn't seem to be one likeable character. And some are just vile.

But will continue to watch.

I dont always get the political references of that time, but shows policing isn't just about solving crime but about trying to navigate an extremely hierarchical structure.

Well I finished this last night - and managed this without realising I had not seen episode 5.

It is a bit slow, but aspects of French history it brings up are really interesting - any worrying.

Beautiful to watch, but so many women leading such sad, unforfilled lives, or dying of male violence.

Honestly, I haven't had the heart to go back to it; as I said upthread, it is so bleak, although obviously a quality production.

Agreed - I think if they do do a 3rd series I wont even try.

Especially as it looks like in the next year of so a 14 year old girl will be being pimped out by her parents.
