I want to register a complaint. I started watching The Last Ship based on @Awrite 's recommendation on this thread here (because I'd enjoyed the Rig)
www.mumsnet.com/talk/telly_addicts/4714024-the-rig-on-amazon-prime
I was trotting along happily really enjoying it. Very much liking Dr Rachel Scott, the very fine Captain Tom Chandler a brave hero and the whole ahead-of-its-time Covidness about the pandemic.
@Awrite was to be congratulated on a fine recommendation.
(End S1 spoilers coming up so look away now)
All going well. But then when the S1 last episode came and Granderson's crew invaded the ship and took control of it while Chandler was trying to rescue his family it really REALLY REALLY ANNOYED ME.
I don't know why it upset me so much. These are my best guesses:
*I think it's because it seemed so bloody desperate showrunner stuff - what can we do to spin out a second season? They didn't need that. I was enjoying it anyway as a character and situation driven drama.
- I seemed pretty implausible that it could happen in that way as this crew had proved themselves time and time again as adept at managing extraordinary conflict and difficult situations.
*I realised obviously the whole of s2 or at least the beginning would now be taken up with a junk story of them having to re-gain control of the ship which is going to be boring as hell. I'm just not interested in it. I want Tom back on his ship saving the world.
*Did I mention I was annoyed?
More spoilers (look away now again for S2) I was so annoyed that my lovely viewing pleasure was ruined I googled to read what happened in S2 and found out that instead of lovely Dr Scott getting together with the lovely Captain -she dies!!! Although looks like it was because Rhona Mitra had some sort of dispute about her female character path with the powers that be based on social media posts.
Someone please come and be my upset Last Ship Friend.
Anyone on that thread who was watching or has watched bit of it?

In other news, I now am in love with Eric Dane (although it may actually be the fictional character of Captain lovely lovely Tom Chandler I love) and wondering if it's possible to stalk someone across an ocean. . .
