I binged 1883 I've the weekend but can't decide what to watch next. Should I watch 1923 or Yellowstone? I know Yellowstone was released first out of all of them.

If you started with 1883 you might as well move on to 1923, the 7th episode was released today and 8th and final for now next week whilst there are 5 series of Yellowstone with the more gripping series nearer the start.

Badger1970 · 20/02/2023 20:38

We've been engrossed in 1923 - I didn't realise there was one from before.

Thanks - that's made my night.

I'm not so sure about Yellowstone, we've watched 3 episodes but it's not grabbing me like 1923 did.

Meltinthemiddle · 20/02/2023 20:43

Yeah I've just tried Yellowstone and not gripping me either but everyone says it's an amazing. 1883 was brilliant, so will watch 1923 next and hope Yellowstone will grip me once I've got the background.

Stick with Yellowstone - it gets really good. We weren't too sure when we started but glad we didn't give up on it

redrobin75 · 20/02/2023 21:01

Yes agree with all above, stick with Yellowstone especially for series 2 and 3 and 1923 is VERY good.

SlowlyRetreatMyDear · 20/02/2023 21:06

For someone who hasn't watched any, what is the recommended order?

redrobin75 · 21/02/2023 08:03

@SlowlyRetreatMyDear , 1883 is slow throughout and Yellowstone series 1 starts off both slow and confusing so maybe try 1 series of either of them and see how it goes or start with 1923 which is good throughout but we haven't got to the end of the first series yet and I don't think they have started filming the 2nd series so it's going to be a long gap.

@SlowlyRetreatMyDear
We started with 1883, watched available episodes of 1923 and then watched Yellowstone. We found it helpful to have the backstory set out before we began Yellowstone, as the storyline made more sense to us and we enjoyed it more.

hothands · 21/02/2023 13:25

We started off with one episode of Yellowstone and couldn't get into it, so we watched 1883 which we loved. We then watched 1923 and started on Yellowstone again and have watched them all. Personally, I think starting with 1883 helped.

I thought I'd hate Yellowstone too, tbf. From the description and the fact it stars Kevin Costner, I thought it wouldn't be my thing but I loved it.

SlowlyRetreatMyDear · 21/02/2023 14:54

@coolmum123 @redrobin75 and @hothands thank you for that. I will tell you that I don't know much about it but have heard good things. I have been fascinated by the bravery of prospectors and speculators carving out their lives in the wilds of America since I was a child. I blame The Adventures of The Wilderness Family from the 1970s and then Little House on the Prairie!

@SlowlyRetreatMyDear then you will enjoy 1883 ☺️I am fascinated by that too so I got really into it.. I won't add anything more as I don't want to spoil it. We started 1883 just knowing that it was a prequel to Yellowstone.

SlowlyRetreatMyDear · 21/02/2023 15:26

@coolmum123 excellent, thank you. I don't know where my love of that era comes from, I am just drawn to it, I think just history in general but especially journeying to The New World and making a life. I will find a way to start watching with 1883. My children did Making of America for History GCSE so it is good to have a reference to what was happening at that time.

coolmum123 · 21/02/2023 15:35

@SlowlyRetreatMyDear same here! Seeing the Oregon Trail is on my bucket list.
We were in Atlanta a few years back and went to Kennesaw. We were lucky that that day there was a civil war enactment of the Battle of Kennesaw mountain. So fascinating.

RoseyPosey78 · 21/02/2023 15:37

We watched Yellowstone first, then jumped to 1883 and then 1923. But if I could again I'd got 1883-1923-Yellowstone! So I'd go back to 1883 if I were you, it's by far the best show in my opinion too 😊

RoseyPosey78 · 21/02/2023 15:38

Oh sorry got that wrong! 1923 next 😅

SlowlyRetreatMyDear · 21/02/2023 17:10

@coolmum123 on my bucket list too. Just the plains really too. I bet the battle was epic, they tend to be committed to the realism. In some southern schools the civil war is still called the Northern Aggression Grin. We need to visit further west, we went to New England for our honeymoon, visited Plymouth plantation, walked on the Mayflower II, went to a Shaker village where times were simpler etc. We visited 4 states to see The Fall season, just stunning. We really want to visit the National Parks hence why Yellowstone was already on my radar to watch.

RedRiverShore3 · 21/02/2023 19:52

I couldn't get into Yellowstone first time round but now I have watched and enjoyed the other two I will try it again so you are probably best doing it in the order you have OP
