Sky + it last night so will report back later...

constancereader · 07/02/2008 08:57

I stayed up to watch it and was entertainingly horrified.

Kevin did his usual damning with faint praise.

amidaiwish · 07/02/2008 09:17

if you are talking about the gothic style one, it was horrible..

The husband made me really mad. Anything that went wrong was "HER" fault as she was project manager (as well as a full time job and 2 children, wtf was he doing?)

Plus they ran over budget massively - had to "borrow" £100k from their fathers' pensions. Despite this he commissioned an additional 8 handcrafted gargoyles for the stairs, a 60" plasma, a £30k staircase, huge fireplace etc... I'm sure their fathers are delighted!!!

amidaiwish · 07/02/2008 09:17

and don't you think Kevin is becoming a bit more "Sarah Beeny" in this series??!

CaptainCod · 07/02/2008 09:19

yes i did htink that
mayeb its all in the editing

Miaou · 07/02/2008 09:25

The gargoyles (fab thought they were) were £400 each and they had eight - that's a helluva lot of money for some whimsey when you haven't got any spare cash!

"Look what we did with your pension dad"

Miaou · 07/02/2008 09:27

Oh yes the curtains - they were VILE - as dh said, they should have gone for tab tops hanging off iron poles - not some nineties peppermint-and-cream monstrosities!!

southeastastra · 07/02/2008 09:27

thought it was nice, different.

laundrylover · 07/02/2008 09:27

Last night I kind of drifted off as that couple were so thick! When they ordered extra gargoyles at £400 each and then said they'd spent her Dad's pension I was appalled.

The house was good for them but God help 'em if they have to sell it eh? Which could be a distinct possibility seeing as they owe more than it's worth....crazy.

BettySpaghetti · 07/02/2008 09:29

I didn't like it at all -it looked a bit like a cheap filmset or amusement park set

laundrylover · 07/02/2008 09:29

Crossed posts Miaou - but those 8 were EXTRA to the ones already ordered!!!!
The staircase was fab in the end but as you'd expect for nearly 40k.

I liked the fireplace man bringing round his lifesize picture to fill up the living room.

BettySpaghetti · 07/02/2008 09:30

although I realise it wasn't at all cheap (£30,000 staircase anyone !?)

southeastastra · 07/02/2008 09:31

where did they say the gothic village in north london was?

laundrylover · 07/02/2008 09:46

Here SE Holly Village
Looked an interesting place to visit eh?

piximon · 07/02/2008 09:47

I'm sure they said the gothic place in London was Holly Village.

southeastastra · 07/02/2008 09:55

thanks for that, it's near camden apparently - never heard of it before

laundrylover · 07/02/2008 09:56

Me neither and I know north London quite well - or so I thought.

schneebly · 07/02/2008 10:00

I thought parts of the house were quite nice but the exterior, kitchen and 60" plasma next to the commisioned stone fireplace were awful!

Admit to loving the staircase and stained glass though!

NorthernLurker · 07/02/2008 10:04

I thought 30k was actually a good price for the staircase considering the work that went into it and the size of the thing - but the whole house left us cold - and I think the market for it would be tiny. good job they've no intention of selling it - but how are they going to pay back the pensions?

tiredemma · 07/02/2008 10:05

It was awful. I was pissing myself at Kevins commentary

'It seems a bit....mad"

ROFL.

SheherazadetheGoat · 07/02/2008 10:06

i rofl @ the idea of putting a ye olde wooden frame round the plasma tv. they really are scraping the barrel this series of 'grand' designs. should just be called 'twats build their own twatty houses and we all have a good laugh from the safety of our perfectly decorated living rooms'

NorthernLurker · 07/02/2008 10:07

We were rofl at the bit where she got her protractor out and thought that would crack it! Good job the builder was standing by to save her!
