You never know with C5 dramas, sometimes they are really good and sometimes they are just rubbish.

So thought I would post in case anyone wants to give episode 1 a go.

(sorry if there is an existing thread - I did look but couldn't see anything)

I've recorded it. Give it a go.

Zippedydoo123 · 25/01/2023 21:14

T M Logan is an excellent author.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 25/01/2023 21:17

I'm watching it. Why is the Dad so sceptical of the daughter's boyfriend. Why has the daughter's boyfriend basically just warned the Dad.

NotSummerYet · 25/01/2023 21:23

The daughters boyfriend is like a cross between Lee Mead and Elijah Wood

duc748 · 25/01/2023 22:38

Dad was very suspicious from Minute 1, which seemed a bit odd. But what is George up to?

Clawdy · 25/01/2023 22:59

Intriguing, and I like the guy playing the new boyfriend, something wrong about him from the start, but there may be a twist! (Hopefully! )
Not sure the mum and daughter would have so readily believed his reason for picking up the woman though.

duc748 · 25/01/2023 23:06

I thought his excuse was going to be, "She's my sister!", but same difference I suppose.

NotSummerYet · 25/01/2023 23:46

Is the boyfriend meant to be a ghost? His lips are blue! He looks dead!

IwantToRetire · 26/01/2023 15:55

The father is suspicious because previous boyfriend of his daughter had cheated on her. Or at least the father thought he had. Also over protective because of death of son (blames himself).

My problem is that the new boyfriend is played by an actor who I am sure has played a part like this before so I spent the whole hour not really focusing and trying to remember which programme that had been. Also made the storyline seem a bit cliched.

Hardly recognised Brenda Flicker.

Loved the 1930s(?) house, but how come they could live there when money was so tight.

Is the previous boyfriend the one who is sabotaging the fishing boat? If so why?

It’s a strange programme. House far too grand for the occupants. The parents don’t look like they would ever be together. There are virtually no people in it…like it was filmed during Covid times. The prostitutes lined up on the ridiculously picturesque pier was stupid.

I thought it was pretty rubbish but watched it anyway 😊

duc748 · 26/01/2023 16:26

House far too grand for the occupants

To be fair, that's pretty much a staple in TV drama.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 26/01/2023 18:03

If he had gone to 'rescue' an old co-worker and didn't need any, um, services. How come he gave her money ? The dodgy as fuck answer for everything boyfriend is hiding in plain sight.

There's someone trying to drive the Dad to a nervous breakdown. Wonder who or why ?

It could be the other fisherman that operates the boat with him......

ToffeeNotCoffee · 26/01/2023 18:05

@duc748

That's why I got pissed off with Last Tango in Halifax (their huge fuck off kitchen in their huge fuck off house where the Sarah Lancashire character lived.)

duc748 · 26/01/2023 18:23

The SL character in Last Tango is a headmistress, though, so on a decent wedge, presumably. From what I remember, it's often contrasted with the always skint Nicola Walker character.

KittytheHare · 26/01/2023 19:36

I thought it was ridiculous and cliched but still plan on watching all of it 🤣

duc748 · 27/01/2023 00:19

Yeah, so do I. It's a bit of fun.

Tallisker · 27/01/2023 15:15

The house belonged to his mother in law didn't it? It was perhaps bought donkeys years ago.

There is another thread so apologies for repeating myself on here (sorry can't link) but they had virtually no fishing gear on that boat, no wonder they're not making any money.

The daughters boyfriend is like a cross between Lee Mead and Elijah Wood

He so is! 🤣

ToffeeNotCoffee · 01/02/2023 21:51

Why is the daughter so biddable ?

Clawdy · 01/02/2023 22:56

And the mother seems to hate her husband.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 02/02/2023 09:23

It takes next to nothing for her to get furious with him.

It was a blindingly obvious set-up to get the Dad to the boyfriend's house with the house keys knowing he would have a look around.....and get caught by the boyfriend who had set it all up.

IwantToRetire · 02/02/2023 15:40

At the start of lasts night's episode I was beginning to think it was his trawler partner who was somehow out to get him. The partner seems a bit too interested in the wife.

But as the episode went on and we got more of the back story from his navy days, I am now wondering if the dubious new boyfriend is somehow related to whoever it was that was killed(?) or whatever it is they are all covering up.

I think the wife is so angry because she doesn't seem to be aware her husband is in some sort of emotional breakdown, so for her he is not only useless but making their life worse than it need to be.

And yes, setting him up to go back into the new boy friend's house seems so obvious, but I think that is meant to show that yet again he is just not functioning in a rational way. Why did he take the medal to begin with?

I did think it was going to turn out that the boy friends house wasn't really his, but one he had spied out as being empty and was using it as part of his new personna. Last week they stood outside and peered in. Very odd.

The daughter does seem very placid, or are we just meant to think she is totally infatuated with the new boyfriend.

The dodgy boyfriend's hand suddenly wasn't troubling him......a very short time after cutting his palm badly.

duc748 · 08/02/2023 22:56

Yeah, I'm obviously dumping my previous theory about Ryan being basically OK, but clearly Ed didn't kill George. But that being Ryan seems a bit unlikely. Bob must have a role to play.

IwantToRetire · 09/02/2023 17:49

Well, I think the last episode sort of showed I was nearly right.

But strange they have revealed in the last seen that new boyfriend is definitely not okay.

Presumabley he sent a false text about meeting up at the lifeguard hut and then somehow got the father's car?

I suspect the very matter of fact private detective will solve it all, but will also reveal the secret that has been covered up for years, so the family will fall apart anyway.

And old boyfriend killed because he was getting too close the truth.
