Masked Singer 2023 Thread 2: It's a game of Cat and Mouse and our guesses are all Rubbish!

Piggywaspushed · 14/01/2023 11:35

Thread Two for jovial discussions and guesses!

As per previous thread, and guesses or I told you sos (I am preparing myself for Rubbish demasking!!) are welcome.

Please avoid sharing any heavy hints garnered from social media. A few identities have been leaked that way , especially on the US version.

Once the show has finished airing on ITV, discussion of demasked 'celebrity' is allowed and this does not constitute a spoiler.

We all (ahem, nearly) guessed Lulu. Let's hope we have heard of the rest!!

could Phoenix be Rick astley?

Lampzade · 15/01/2023 04:17

I absolutely loved that song by Hozier.
jellyfish was amazing

Did you see her on that's my jam? She's brilliant. I've not seen Glee but she's super talented!

I did, she has the most amazing voice (in fact I think she is holding back on TMS). Even more why I think it is her as they were filmed around the same time 🤔

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2023 09:29

I'm sure she's great, but I'd actually be really annoyed if the programme used yet another US Glee person to fill their ranks. Especially f they have already won the US version.

Glee stars are also waaaay more obscure in the UK than the tellybox seems to think!

Just posting my previous guesses from the other thread! I’m amazed I got 2/3 right so far!

Lacienay · 08/01/2023 20:02
I only managed to watch this tonight and I thought Lulu immediately so glad I got that one right!

I didn’t get Chris Kamara last week though

Series so far, I think:

Knitting is Claire Richards
Jellyfish is Amber Riley
Otter is Suranne Jones
Cat and mouse are Martin and Shirlie Kemp
Phoenix is Ricky Wilson

Jacket Potato is Shane Ritchie
Fawn is Delta Goodrem
Rubbish is Steve Davis
Pigeon is Catherine Tate
Rhino is Charlie Simpson

Agree with most of these, Suranne Jones was suggested to me by my sister too so I reckon that's a good shout

I am really hoping Jacket potato is Matt Lucas (as in "thank you, baked potato") though

TwigsAndPebblyShit · 14/01/2023 19:37

That's Chris Moyles

Which one is Chris Moyles?

I have seen Chris Moyles live, he's a million miles away from being a good singer (or mover even).

I didn't realise that Glee was obscure over here, i don't know anyone in my circle of friends who hasn't seen it, I even saw it live at the O2 😂

Amber Riley has released albums and done lots of musical theatre work also, same with Lea Michelle, she is known in musical theatre outside of Glee so I wouldn't consider them just US stars, I would say they are worldwide.

However it would be so much easier if we knew if all the celebs were British lol.

I don't actually think Jellyfish sounds like Amber Riley, Amber has a huge voice so different to Jellyfishs style I think. I am the worst guesser ever though.

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 14/01/2023 19:47

Elaine Paige is less than five foot tall.

And a much better singer than Otter

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2023 11:56

I think it might be an age thing, too , so you are probably Glee age! It's - what- 10 years ago now? So I'd guess you are in your 20s , maybe to mid 30s?

At its height , Glee took approx 17% of the available audience share in 16-34 year olds of with 25% of its total audience being 16 to 24.

But that is quite a small telly watching sector and its audience figures were generally far less than 1million per episode. It also wasn't on a terrestrial channel.

Lulu may be a bit of a relic but she is far more generally famous as are Spandau Ballet (certainly MK) imo....

Really my bigger issue is that all the current programmes like this persistently promote Glee stars of yore.

Anyone know why?? Is it just how they all make a living??

JaneJeffer · 15/01/2023 11:57

I couldn't stop thinking about the masked singer when I was lying in bed unable to sleep. Aargh!

JaneJeffer · 15/01/2023 12:00

Anyway here's more Paddy McGuinness evidence: Phoenix + knights. I want to get one right all by myself Sad

As a viewer in my late 40s, I’ve been pleasantly surprised through all the series so far - I’ve known/heard of every contestant apart from Jaime Winstone (I obviously know who her dad is, though!). I thought it would all be Big Brother/Love Island/Hollyoaks types that I wouldn’t recognise. With that in mind, I would say that Jellyfish is probably less likely to be this Glee person, but I don’t have the faintest clue who she might be instead!

JaneJeffer · 15/01/2023 12:02

I haven't a clue who Amber Riley is

Sunbird24 · 15/01/2023 12:04

I’m in my mid 40s and watched all of Glee, though probably shouldn’t admit it!

Elaine Oaige would definitely have laughed and totally outed herself by now, unless she has and that’s been edited out - but agree she’s very short.

I think it was around 2009/2010 it started, I'm in my 40s but me and my friends/family are big music and musical theatre fans so I guess it was inevitable we all watched it. I don't think it was necessarily a young person's programme, more of an interest to musical people I think.

I guessed Lulu but didn't get the Kemps, I saw in online before I watched the episode and still couldn't work out what the clues were on about 😂

PugInTheHouse · 15/01/2023 12:08

I don't think anyone who has been on the US one should be on the UK one though.

piscosours · 15/01/2023 12:09

I think Amber Riley is really quite famous. She's sung in lots of forums, she's sung with stars like Beverley knight, Jennifer Hudson... I'm surprised people would have missed her entirely even if you didn't want Glee originally (too young or too old!).

I'm not convinced it's her though. Maybe she's holding back but the voice is not quite as good.

I don't think Phoenix could be Ricky Wilson, the singing was not great this week and the dancing was terrible!

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2023 12:09

Yes, to be fair, the Glee stars have been on the Dancer one more, I'd say.

I am buying the Amber R theory, having read up on her and the body shape works. But he won the US version and that seems really quite strange. However, a few others so far have been on both.

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2023 12:10

Now J-Hud I have heard of! She is way more famous!

JaneJeffer · 15/01/2023 12:14

The only time I ever watched Glee was when I was waiting to be seen in A&E. As if it wasn't bad enough already.

Raahh · 15/01/2023 12:14

Queen the Jaime Winstone reveal was the most underwhelming one across the whole of the 4 series, so far, absolutely.

Someone on the payroll at TMS/TMD hq must have a thing for US cable shows of the mid 2000s- Jesse Metcalfe was a bit of 'eh?' moment in Dancer, and followed up by Heather Morris, it was bit of a rubbish series. And I watched both Glee and Desperate Housewives (and I'm 51 Grin)- but I wouldn't say I would expect anyone to remember much about either. They will be really scraping the barrel soon and getting the cast of Revenge on, or Brothers and Sisters. Balthazar Getty as singing table, or something.

PugInTheHouse · 15/01/2023 12:16

IIRC Amber Riley was the first person who played the lead in Dream Girls in either the West End or Broadway. I have an album she did as part of a group called Leading Ladies, I'm sure Beverly Knight was in the group.
