Haven't seen a thread on this? Last ever, all loose ends tied up! Enjoyed it, though have seen better episodes. So sad to say goodbye though.

Nobody else watched it?!

I enjoyed it, hadn’t seen it for years but it was easy to pick up again. Love the gentle humour and the beautiful Cornish scenery.

Snugglepiggy · 28/12/2022 08:36

I did but as we came late to Doc in our household and watched all series on Britbox all the adverts spoilt the flow. And personally thought it should have ended with that last lovely episode of final series. Also somewhat horrified to see them launching sky lanterns .Martin Clunes is a huge animal and wildlife lover so even though it showed one causing a fire what were the producers thinking?
All round though I loved all the charities, scenery and whimsical humour of DM.

It was really good, but as you say not the best they've ever done. I think sometimes the last ever episode is underwhelming, for various reasons. Partly because the anticipation of more of the same contributes to the enjoyment of watching and in the fi al episode you don't have that.

Clawdy · 28/12/2022 08:55

I was hoping his mother in the hallucination scene would say something nice to him, but I guess it might have been too sentimental........

yes the sky lanterns were very odd

but doc martin coming down in a sleigh was so heart warming.

GCAcademic · 28/12/2022 10:09

We were appalled at the sky lanterns too. So irresponsible, and no one who lives in a rural community would be stupid enough to release those.

DreamingOfAGreenChristmas · 28/12/2022 10:17

Laughed like a drain at some of it, but horrified by the sky lanterns and a bit aghast at the sudden recovery from hypothermia by standing in front of the fire for 3 minutes.

I suppose the Christmas tree catching fire was a cautionary tale against Chinese lanterns but too comic to be real mitigation.

Willmafrockfit · 28/12/2022 11:06

i thought perhaps sky lanterns were thought to be ok as they were heading to the sea

starfishmummy · 28/12/2022 11:12

I thought it was a bit meh, as if someone had suddenly decided to do it as an afterthought without a decent scriptwriter.

And totally agree with pp about the lanterns.

Clawdy · 30/12/2022 09:10

The documentary about the making of Doc Martin was on last night, really enjoyed it. Amazing to see all those original cast members who were there till the end, after 18 years!

Thanks for mentioning this, I didn’t know about this. Will watch later!

MissyB1 · 30/12/2022 09:20

Yes the documentary last night was really interesting, definitely worth seeing.

StrawberryPot · 30/12/2022 09:25

^^ This. I was absolutely appalled. People are very ignorant about the impact of sky lanterns and this sort of coverage doesn't help at all Angry

Nope, not good over the sea.

Seals or dolphins could get caught up in the bamboo or wire frames. Jellyfish-eating creatures could try and swallow a lantern, burning lanterns coming down on yacht sails or boat decks…

Seaoftroubles · 31/12/2022 13:20

Also shocked by the Sky Lanterns, very jarring inclusion in the programme!
Thanks for the mention of the documentary though @Clawdy l will enjoy watching that!

LIZS · 31/12/2022 21:49

Watched yesterday and thought same about the sky lanterns, odd.

Ladywiddio48 · 31/12/2022 21:51

Sky Lanterns were banned in Cornwall several years ago. What a stupid scene for the whole series to end on!

BrokenWing · 31/12/2022 21:56

There were parts that were very good, but others that were predictable and dull.

What I did love was his son. Great wee actor and it could have made a great new series with him playing a bigger part.

nilsmousehammer · 31/12/2022 22:01

Agree, we all went wtf?! at the lanterns.

It was a bit.... lovely cast, lovely place, the pleasure of it all as usual, but not much of a script for them to work with.

Danikm151 · 31/12/2022 22:06

I want to see an episode were Mulwena goes into labour and the doc has to help with Bert at the side making not so helpful comments 😂

mum2jakie · 14/01/2023 23:27

Very late as not got round to watching the Christmas episode until today. I absolutely loved it! #Spoilers - loved happy ending with an engagement and baby on the way, Mrs Tishell finally coming to terms with things and Martin being able to show his love to his own family in spite of his upbringing. A lovely ending to a fantastic series. Just need to watch the documentary now.
