Do you have Virgin Media and find accessing BBC iPlayer via VM catch up a problem?

I think I got into the habit of recording BBC series as using the catch up option on VW was so quirky ie they obviously link to the web site rather than having programmes stored themselves.

Anyway my recording facilities (along with movies saved for Christmas) has broken, so thought I could use the catch up link to iPlayer.

It takes ages to load, the interface is clunky, and doesn't seem to respond to my VM remote, eg rewind or FF.

Just wondered if anyone else has these issues or whether my VM equipment needs replacing.

Thanks for any feedback.

No. Its virgin. Our iplayer via their box is awful and makes me think of dialup with fond memories.

dial up! exactly - I am so frustrated and worn out by the time I get to the programme I thought I wanted to watch I start thinking it cant be worth the bother.

I never use the Iplayer on Virgin. Instead, years ago, we attached a chrome cast device and stream from a mobile device or laptop via Chrome Cast. Much faster and more control. I'm about to get a new TV so it will be interesting how it works on that.

I use the iPlayer app via the Home button on Virginmedia rather than go through the catch up menus. It works perfectly each time.

I was thinking of getting a Firestick but have also found with VM if you watch late when it is quiet, that is when VM starts tinkering with their network and suddenly a catch up service isn't there.

Didn't know about accessing ie player via Home button will give that a go.

Thanks

I have no problem at all. Rather than use the catchup page, I go into the virgin homepage, click on apps, and go to iPlayer from there.

I find iPlayer worse than any of the other catch up channels. They all start immediately and never buffer.

Iplayer takes ages to load, quite often buffers and jerks a lot when programme first starts and sometimes part way through whatever I'm watching. I hate it, it is so frustrating as you sit there waiting for it to continue.

My friend has same problem and we are both with Virgin.

I've just looked at the Apps and will give that a go to get iPlayer and see if that works better. Thanks!!

I did find going to BBC iPlayer via apps very slightly quicker, but ... the interface / interaction with iPlayer is dire. ie say I want to stop and rewind something I am watching to check what has been said or something, the response to pressing pause is slow, and when you click the back button there is no obvious display that you get with catch up or recorded programmes. And also very slow to respond when you click pause again to stop rewind. So aggravating and as said upthread, like being on dial up!

However I was excited to see that apps offer ITVx, but when I tried to use it, it said I had the wrong box, and then when I went to VM to look to swop boxes the one mentioned didn't seem to be available.
