Anyone watched this? It’s like the writers referenced a list of stereotypical autistic traits and behaviours and ticked each one off when they wrote the autistic character - I’m autistic as is my son I found it pretty offensive tbh.

I only watched the first 10 mins and I didn’t find it funny.

Wasn’t the best episode but the ending was good.

Robbie Curran who played the young man is actually autistic. He was the the first autistic performer to graduate from the Oxford School of Drama.

I thought the episode was ok. I did think some of the autistic points were a bit cliched, but my ds is autistic and would probably behaved that way if we went to his favourite shop and the guy who owned it had died. He would feel sad, but he would definately still want his normal routine to go on there and would struggle to understand why it couldn't.

Meh. Can't get hung up about it tbh. The writing called out the main character - who can be acerbic and irascible - as being insincere when he was trying to be inclusive. His awkwardness and attempts to be uber-positive to cover his discomfort was well written. Later, he is less patronising and more real in his interactions and the two develop a nice dynamic. Yes, there were some tropes in terms of rigidity of thinking but, like rainbows, I have encountered this unwavering need to stick to what was planned. Caveat: you meet someone with autism, you've only met that person with autism.

I'm diagnosed autistic and I really liked it.

My sister has autism and I felt it well written and showed quite well the inability to bend/ flex to new situations and that it's not a choice, but absolutely normal to him to try and keep his routine.

The autistic character reminded me of my son, who is also autistic. The episode made me cry, it was so sad.
