3 Pines Crime series

For any one needing a quick detective series fix, 3 Pines is now on Amazon Prime. Based on the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache character from author Louise Penny . Probably not the best out there but at least it's not all serial killer gore.

I watched this series last week. Quite enjoyed it, and had not heard of the books. Enjoyed seeing the Canadian scenery, liked the local novice cop character. Passed a bit of time while cooking and washing up for me.

They are pretty much my favourite series of detective books, and I think they've done a decent job of translating them onto screen, although there are a lot of the character nuances missing. It always takes a while to get used to seeing characters played by people who don't look like you'd imagined them!

I’ve been reading this series for years and I just can’t watch the tv version. The actors look all wrong for the characters. These are such beautifully written books, that I just feel televising them would mean losing most of the essence of them, as it’s the writing that makes them work so well.

I've watched the first few episodes. They seem a bit trite and obvious somehow. Maybe I will try to persevere with them. Or perhaps read the books instead if they are better?
