LOST - I need some honest advice

I have just watched first episode of first series of Lost

it seems quite interesting BUT

hang on - is it one of those programmes you have to discuss with people re theories etc in which case everyone has done all that years back

and my dh couldn't be less interested in it so it will just be me

is it worth persevering or should I just go back to my festival of Jack Bauer, which is perfectly satisfactory as a lone pursuit

Lost is best enjoyed in tandem with someone, then you can say, 'I was right' about your particular theories.
Of course this never happens to me, my theories are always bloody wrong. I spent the whole of the first series saying, it's a bloody **' I was wrong!

dinny · 01/02/2008 21:37

oh, it is FAB. my dh doesn't really watch it - VERY annoyingly - so have to discuss with a friend who similarly loves it!

it's excellent and it's bakc on Sunday - YAY!

rantinghousewife · 01/02/2008 21:38

A friend of mine actually texts me with her theories during the ad breaks, it really pisses dh off.

Cappuccino · 01/02/2008 21:39

this is not helping

this seems to be telling me that I cannot watch it alone

I have no friends

well I do but they are very clever and read books

I would persevere. It's great.

During the first series, DH decided to download all the episodes that hadn't been shown and I had the most ALMIGHTY row with him, because he kept watching them late at night in bed, with earphones in and I was FURIOUS that I was now going to have to watch them on TV, on my own.

Ended up with him locked in the bathroom with the laptop.

Just a teeny over-reaction from me...

But you can see how it gets people.

LyraSilvertongue · 01/02/2008 21:42

Persevere. It gets much better in series 2.

twelveyeargap · 01/02/2008 21:43

Ah, what I meant was, that I did watch it "on my own" in the end, and I still enjoyed it immensely.

In fact, why don't you have a "Lost Weekend" and rent the box sets and then you can catch up with the current series.

Sky+ or record the ones on Sky (if you have Sky) and when you're finished with the box sets, you can start watching this series.

Genius, me.

Cappuccino · 01/02/2008 21:44

I am getting them from Lovefilm

I could theoretically watch 8 episodes this weekend

especially since dh has been away on a course for a fortnight so I have lots of looking after children points saved up

I prefer to watch it alone, as then there's noone to see me staring goon-like at the tv with my mouth wide open.

Ist episode of new series last night (in Canada) FAN -bloody- tastic.

.
Anyone want a spoiler????

twelveyeargap · 01/02/2008 21:46

Bongo! Bongo??? I meant BINGO!

Go for it. In fact, I'd love to watch the old ones again, because sometimes, in later episodes you go, "AHA! That's what that was about."

UnquietDad · 01/02/2008 21:47

rantingexwife - is that missing word "game show" by any chance?

twelveyeargap · 01/02/2008 21:47

New series here on Sunday.

hellish · 01/02/2008 21:48

x posts Calif - it was great though wasn't it?

rantinghousewife · 01/02/2008 21:49

UQD, yes, can you guess what it was?

rantinghousewife · 01/02/2008 21:50

Opps read you wrong, no it wasn't gameshow, it was *!

UnquietDad · 01/02/2008 21:51

er... what what was? didn't I just do that?

UnquietDad · 01/02/2008 21:51

oh sorry!

err... five stars... dream?

rantinghousewife · 01/02/2008 21:52

Am I so transparent?!!!

UnquietDad · 01/02/2008 21:56

To be fair it was one of the top theories at the time. Dream, game-show, purgatory.

FlameNFurter · 01/02/2008 22:00

I watch it by myself - I do discuss on here (normally at the end of seasons so I don't risk spoilers).

Not read the thread (for risk of aforementioned spoilers!)

I do find though that I enjoy it, I want to watch the next episode etc, but I never actually find myself caring about any of it or them.

rantinghousewife · 02/02/2008 19:37

UQD, the purgatory thing was uppermost in my mind for a looonng time, even though I know they discounted it.
The multiple biblical and philosphical references still make me wonder.

Kitti · 04/02/2008 18:58

People I know who do watch it never discuss it with me - we jsut enjoy it for what it is and if we're wrong with our therories then no-one knows!!! Just enjoy it - I watched the first season before anyone else because I bought it cheap off ebay and I was raving about it for ages before it came out here. You can't beat the first series though and it seems even cast members think the same but I'm glad it's back.
