Im on episode 2 and loving this. Anyone else?

I have read most Agatha Christie and am enjoying delving into her background and commentary on societal norms at the time.

(I would recommend Lucy Worsley’s lady killer podcast really opened my eyes that we haven’t changed all that much and was surprised at the compassion showed by justice system in some cases)

Am crazy about Christie. Where is it playing please?

SimonandGarfunkel · 08/12/2022 17:49

Yes am really enjoying it. I listened to the Lady killers podcast to and it was so interesting. I have to admit that I'm a bit of a Lucy Worsley fan 😁

Workerbeep · 08/12/2022 17:56

Enjoyed both the Agatha Christie series and Ladykillers.
Agree I was also surprised at the compassion shown some cases. It made me think we like to think we've moved on but in some ways maybe not!

There is an unrelated podcast series called Shedunnit, all about golden age crime fiction. Loads of episodes about Christie, as well as loads of other authors and themes. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys these Lucy W series 🙂

TotteringByGenteeley · 08/12/2022 18:12

I'm loving the Agatha Christie series. I will have to look up the recommended podcasts.

Workerbeep · 08/12/2022 18:20

@RunnyPaint thanks for podcast recommendation, I’ll need to look up Shedunnit.

Well, I have just starting watching this programme abut Agatha Christie!
I am watching ep1 and really enjoying it.
I really love Christie's writing and love the TV adaptations too.

And a Poison Garden, wow!

Lentilweaver · 08/12/2022 20:39

Thanks @Workerbeep will look up both the TV show and the podcast. In another life, I would have liked to do a Phd on Christie. I just think her books are so deceptively simple and yet so complex in what they say about societal norms back then. I also think Miss Marple is a true feminist!

UWhatNow · 08/12/2022 20:42

I love Lucy Worsley but I think her fan-girling over Christie has got in the way of her academic objectivity a bit. Her conjectures about Christie’s mental health and her disappearing to Harrogate were a bit wild to me.

SirChenjins · 08/12/2022 20:43

I’m loving the Agatha Christie series and y y to Lady Killers. Like you I was surprised at the leniency/compassion shown, I always thought hanging was the automatic outcome in these cases.

Lucy Worsely is my #1 girl crush - and absolutely love her outfits

I'm now nearing the end of the third one, and the Shedunnit host, Caroline Crampton, has turned up, so perhaps not quite so unrelated. Lucy W is also on an episode of the podcast that I've not yet got to.

I adore Agatha Christie having been reading her books since a young teen. Miss Marple is my favourite character but my favourite book is Murder of Roger Ackroyd as it's such a twist. I also have an old copy of "And then there were none" with the racist title. I thought copy must be really old but it's from the 1970s I think, and I was shocked to hear on this programme it had the title until 1986!
Anyway, I watched three episodes of this documentary whilst painting my bannisters on Friday and really enjoyed it.
Have listened to Lady Killers podcast so will have to look up Shedunnit!

Just watched this and really enjoyed it. Weird seeing the Queen and Princess Anne looking so young and towering over the elderly Agatha at the film premiere. Remember reading a lot as a teen, especially Curtain, and had forgotten that she'd written it years before and held it back until the 70s.

marplemead · 17/12/2022 15:33

I love Christie and really enjoyed this series. I am currently reading the new Marple collection, which I would recommend to fellow fans.

Whitwhit · 17/12/2022 15:38

I really enjoyed this.
Must visit Greenway.

Floralnomad · 17/12/2022 15:38

I love Lucy Worsley and watch all her programmes but I do think she was a bit too kind about Christie , particularly concerning her disappearance. The romance series that has just been shown is excellent .
