Any one else watching? It has a teen high school vampire vibe ( gosh isn’t everyone absolutely perfectly beautiful) but also enough Addams family dark humour to keep me going, though I am pretty sure I am not the target demographic. I am shocked about what has happened to poor Thing, feeling a bit cut up about his appearance ( sorry).

Catherine Zeta Jones looks very Morticia like, until you remember how perfect Anjelica Houston was. Ditto Gomez.

Watched ep1 yesterday with 12yo. I loved it and so did she. Catherine ZJ v good - looks amazing! I haven't seen the film though.

Gomez in Wednesday is true to how he looks in the comics.

tsmainsqueeze · 24/11/2022 19:38

I was disappointed , i thought it was really wooden , was expecting the usual Tim Burton 'style' which i love and found it lacking.
Gomez was sleazy and his teeth revolting and CZJones was no where near as perfect a Morticia as Angelica Houston.
Not sure i'll bother watching more and i was really looking forward to this as i love The Adams Family.

CoffeeLover90 · 25/11/2022 07:25

Well. I'm on episode 6 so yes, love it. Gomez and Thing look as they do in the comics. Morticia was like a twig figure so happy they've used a curvier lady. Make up could be paler.
I think the doctor or the teacher who was old Wednesday are LG and somehow involved in the monster.
Also love the world of monsters/outcasts.
I'm suspicious of the sheriffs son.

lugeforlife · 25/11/2022 07:29

Am watching with dds and we love it. Up to episode 3 but we plan on trying to finish this weekend

We have a lot of theories so far

imbacktoshowyoumydress · 25/11/2022 22:50

I'm really enjoying it!

Love the Wednesday actress she's fab.

Not keen on the Gomez characterisation, I know this is similar to how he looks in comics but I loved the chemistry and attraction between the Gomez and Morticia in the films.

Also really want Wednesday's lipstick!

Icantreachthepretzels · 25/11/2022 23:03

I finished it this evening - I've binged it over the past three nights. It was brilliant -though the last episode was the weakest one.

Wednesday herself was fab, but every time she appeared onscreen with Christina Ricci I'd look between them and think 'but... you're her!' I like to think the whole 'Pilgrim World' idea was a nod to the Addams Family Values and the play they put on at summer camp. Wednesday looked amazing dressed as a pilgrm, and in her dress for the dance... and just in general.

Everyone was really well cast, but the siren song special effect just made Bianca look like she had bad breath.

I might rewatch the whole thing again and see if I missed clues.

viques · 26/11/2022 08:54

@Icantreachthepretzels

I agree that the last episode was the weakest, I think they were trying to tie up some stories and leaving the way open for another series.

I did like some of the subtle jokes. My favourite is Enid’s werewolf mother dressed in sheepskin!

Overall, I liked it.

Pros - Wednesday actress, her dancing, the music and cello, CZJ (although no one can be as good as angelica), Gomez (but again not as good as movie Gomez), Enid the roomie, the monster (very Tim Burton-esque), Thing was great (poor Thing!) and Christina Ricci (she's good in everything but will she be back?)

Cons - Too many characters to keep up with is my main gripe. The headteacher and the therapist - I didn't really get the point of them unless it was to throw us off the scent of who LG really was (I guessed that almost immediately).

Did anyone else hear "gareth gates" instead of "garrett gates" and think our Gareth had been murdered 😂

Icantreachthepretzels · 27/11/2022 10:10

Yes Gareth Gates made me chuckle every time. And I knew who the baddie was straight from the trailer... that was sort of the point of her being there, otherwise - why her?

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 27/11/2022 10:16

i really disliked it. the only really good bit was the bit they put in the preview with the piranhas.

it came across as a fairly generic leap onto the bandwagon of supernatural boarding school high-jinx which just borrowed the Addams family character names and 2D sketch personality bytes in order to piggyback a big brand name but the two sides don't fit together well. i love

Addams Family stuff is quite often genius but this isn't it.

BlueChampagne · 28/11/2022 11:50

It's the first thing DD has let me watch with her in ages; we're enjoying it (half way through).

HoHoHowMuch · 30/11/2022 10:53

I loved it. Thought Jenna Ortega played the part very well. Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston were utter perfection, so no one could ever be as good. But CZJ gave it a good go. I also liked that Eugene git to have his moment and not just be generic nerd kid.

SeasonFinale · 30/11/2022 10:57

I really liked it.

I read an article about all the "Easter eggs" ie nods to Adamms Family and Adamms Family Values, other Tim Burton films (pictures in cafe), writers names as name of store etc and because I had finished they made sense.

lailamaria · 30/11/2022 21:54

i think jenna ortega and emma myers (enid) are definitely the stars and i predict season 2 will definitely focus on that rather than just wednesday/the addams

CoffeeLover90 · 30/11/2022 22:59

@SeasonFinale Can you point me towards the article please? I has some deja vu when watching, the apples during archery, obviously the snaps thought it was really clever

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 01/12/2022 06:59

I thought it was amazing. If Jenna Ortega doesn’t clear up at every TV awards ceremony I’d be really disappointed, she was amazing! That dance scene was iconic and I may have watched quite a few times.

The storyline was good, not brilliant, but enough. Some great characters, better than a lot of similar shows out there.

The whole production and style was gorgeous to look at. I’ll be wearing mostly black for a while now.

Ridelikethewindypops · 01/12/2022 07:08

Overall I liked it, but Czj couldn't touch Anjelica Houston as Morticia.
Gomez, I'm having a baby. Right now. 😁
Absolutely loved Addam's family values in Camp Chippewa. Definitely more than a nod to that with pilgrim world this Wednesday even references the Pilgrims arriving and stealing the land.
Jenny Ortega took getting used to but I liked her by the end.
A bit of a Buffy vibe to it with better special effects.

autumndays2 · 01/12/2022 07:16

Hi I have watched one episode so far. I know it's a 12 but those that have watched more episodes what age do you think it's appropriate for?

I thought Jenna Ortega was phenomenal in if. As for the whole series, watchable and fun but they could have done it in 6 episodes I think.

MintyGreenDreams · 01/12/2022 11:00

@autumndays2 ds 8 watched it with us and it was fine

Bananarama21 · 01/12/2022 11:03

Jenna outshines Christina as Wednesday.

I do hope so.
A potential lifelong friendship though like chalk and cheese

Dh and I are watching it. He’s enjoying it more than me. I mean it’s okay and fun and everything but it feels more like something I’d watch with Ds aged 10 rather than something I’d choose to watch with dh in the evenings. But that’s just me, I tend to watch a lot darker stuff like handmaids tale and Ozark and whatever. Dh loves it though.
