I hope mumsnet allows this type of question.

I hadn't heard of this service until the Neighbours announcement.

It seems once you have bought a Firestick you can watch free.

Does anyone know? Is it a trick, to get you to subscribe.

And more importantly does it have any good series or films.

Thanks for any info.

As far as I can gather it’s a free app you can download or it’s there as part of prime if you get that. I’ve found it on prime (getting ready for Neighbours!!) but not really explored what’s on there yet.

RobotandPenguin · 18/11/2022 16:50

I think until recently it was called IMDB TV and could be accessed via Amazon Prime. It has some good films and series but with adverts.

TwoMonthsOff · 18/11/2022 16:58

@IwantToRetire
good username I want to as well !
I think its really good there are ads but they are very few , for a free streaming service I cant fault it and it has some good series, I have posted about it before, it has Longmire and SouthLAnd which are both great series and there are a few older series like Without A Trace and the Closer. It is definitely worth a try and and explore as it wont cost you anything

@IwantToRetire
I just read your post in full, there are no catches at all, I dont have a fire stick I just downloaded the app as I had Amazon (paid) to watch Bosch but the 'Bosch Legacy' series was free on Freevee so I finished Amazon prime and watched it on Freevee, there is absolutely no catch about subscribing ever.

IwantToRetire · 18/11/2022 17:15

Thanks so much for all replies. I just need to see if my old tv has the right sort of port for a firestick! (I am not on Amazon)

Longmire was one of my favourite series of the type where you think I really not sure I like everyone but couldn't stop watching!

@IwantToRetire
I LOVE it so much I am hooked, it used to be on channel 5 i think then they dropped it or something and I never got past season 3 i was so upset so I was delighted to see the whole thing up on Freevee - sadly I am on the final season now but it is absolutely fantastic and one of the best series I have ever seen, definitely in my Top 5

Good Luck with your Fire Stick !

OldTinHat · 18/11/2022 17:34

I have the app on my phone and cast it to the TV. Its pretty good and yes, totally free. You don't need a firestick, just download the app from the play store.

Needmorelego · 18/11/2022 17:38

But do you have to pay for Prime to get it?

TwoMonthsOff · 18/11/2022 17:42

@Needmorelego
no it is absolutely free - with just minimal ads, mostly it is just one ad maybe three times per show - there is no catch (even the ads are not annoying I like the song in the whats app one)

Needmorelego · 18/11/2022 17:47

@TwoMonthsOff ooh cool. I will check it out.

TwoMonthsOff · 18/11/2022 17:52

@Needmorelego
You can actually browse the content first - hehe 😅 i have just seen Miami Vice is on it !!!

IwantToRetire · 18/11/2022 19:33

Well I checked out specifications etc., and can get a Firestick at Argos at half price, though not happy about having to use Alexa ... hmm

But my problem is I didn't realise it would be hdmi and having already invested in a 2 port hdmi switch as tv only has one hdmi port, so will now have to buy a 3 port one that will cost more than the Firestick. Or maybe just go old school and pull cables in and out!*

Please note all my equipment including mobile like me are all bit old and I dont at this point in time want to invest in a new Smart(?) ... but maybe in the sales.

@IwantToRetire

it all sounds complicated🤔
I don't actually have a TV but I have a 12.9 Ipad pro and I watch all my TV shows on it (so nice snuggled up in bed )so its easy just to download the TV apps
I am sure someone knowledgeable will be along to help you, I hope so

abblie · 18/11/2022 21:42

abblie · 18/11/2022 21:45

When you get your firestick you download various apps as such I have freevee, UK play TV, music stations and lots of other ones it just takes you to have some patience and go through them all and you don't need a TV license to watch it unless you Dow load bbc iplayer or watch it on other devices etc which i don't
