I didn’t want to hijack the main EE thread but I need to shout from the rooftops about my hatred for this character. I don’t know what they are thinking devoting any time to a character that is so one dimensional, irritating, lacking credibility and a downright tool.

I even have a sneaking suspicion they are prepping us for a reunion with Kat meaning he might be around for longer than his usual popping in and letting down his children routine.

He makes my skin crawl! And while I’m at it - why have they turned Jack Branning into such an utter weapon? He was always a bell end, but he’s another one that I just can’t take seriously any more. No way would Denise be with him.

Eastenders really going through a low point atm - so many unbelievable characters, dialogue and storylines. I am considering abandoning!

It's Eastenders. I think you're expecting a lot.

I am! It’s a bit of comfort telly a few times a week and has crafted some brilliant characters over the years.

I used to watch EE religiously until about five years ago and I honestly don't miss it at all. I sometimes go in the gym and it's on and it still looks like a pile of shite. It was really entertaining a few years ago but it was starting to stress me out so I stopped and don't regret it. And I started watching it around the age of five lol

amprev · 18/11/2022 10:06

I’m glad it’s just not me that gets stressed at how shite it is! I’ve watched it from day 1 too - it’s like a comfortable old pair of shoes that you don’t like to be seen in public in but are invaluable for putting the bins out in.

Yeah you're right. I like it over Corrie and holby as well but I don't miss any of them.

Iamboredandgoingforatwix · 18/11/2022 22:48

I just want Sean Slater back - the rest of the men can fuck off, especially Mr constipated spud face and Jack Branning. Horrible men.

Actually, they just need to get rid of any characters that can only communicate by shouting.really.slowly. as they do.

I think there is a weird thing going on in EE where new characters exist to only prop up the long serving ones, which just leads to a rinse and repeat of storylines. They also bring in new, promising characters to tick a storyline box and then get rid without any character development too. I think there is definitely a hierarchy in the cast which is damaging the soap.

Alfie Moon is a fucking wanker. But then they all are. They should do a Brookside with it.

XenoBitch · 19/11/2022 02:04

Imagine Kat posting an AIBU here about Alfie... everyone would be telling her to get a restraining order put on him.
It is not romantic to see a bloke so determined to get an ex back that has no interest in him.

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 19/11/2022 02:10

I recall years ago Harry Hill saying “ do you remember when we all liked Alfie “

artysally · 19/11/2022 03:16

Alfie was always a bit irritating even at the beginning when he lived with his gran and brother, or was it his nephew. Even how he used to wear Kat's dressing gown (Mick started to do the same, he was irritating too, but a milder version of Alfie). But they ramped it up and the last I saw he'd stolen from Phil and disappeared again. He was so useless and over the top.

I can't believe he's back. I stopped watching EE over a year ago. An influx of new actors and wooden acting, and terrible storylines made me stop. I don't watch any soaps now.

artysally · 19/11/2022 03:21

I used to post on the EE thread here, and that was often more entertaining than the programme.

I don't think I'll have missed much? I think Kat had just got together with Phil, Stacey was in prison and Jean was keeping some secret connected to her cancer. I expect Grey (or was it Gray) came to a grisly end, unless he's still around, but I do wonder if Jean survived!

the80sweregreat · 19/11/2022 03:23

I really understand the hatred and I get it, but loyalty and the main EE thread on Mumsnet keeps me watching as I was only 20 when it started and it is like an old pair of slippers you can't part with! I do like so many of the characters and the acting isn't that bad at times. Alfie won't be around for too long I'm sure and it's usually full on for Christmas/ new year. It's just some escapism for me, I don't watch other soaps.

the80sweregreat · 19/11/2022 03:24

Jean survived!

artysally · 19/11/2022 03:25

I think Jack Branning was nicknamed Boris Karloff briefly. Entertaining viewing and implausible his police work.

artysally · 19/11/2022 03:26

the80sweregreat · 19/11/2022 03:24

Jean survived!

Oh thanks! That's nice to know.

the80sweregreat · 19/11/2022 03:30

It's not until you see bad acting in things that you realize that so many of the actors in this are pretty good , especially Ben who is brilliant

Ha ha. Brilliant. I don't really hate Alfie as much as some women, but he is bloody useless and shouldn't be celebrated as some cheeky chappie. I think the men are a bit OTT and thug like sometimes in EE, and I know Eastenders like to show real people with flaws, but they are a bit too flawed to be believeable. Even Martin is a bit of a thug and he is supposed to be your boring family man type.

Rockbird · 19/11/2022 07:17

I haven't watched Eastenders since they killed off Ronnie and Roxy. I used to love Kat and Alfie but he'd turned into a bit of a knob even then.

Wait what? Kat and Phil?? Dear God...

the80sweregreat · 19/11/2022 07:21

Kat and Phil isn't a terrible pairing ! In fact, it worked for a while. They are still together, although Phil has gone off for a while atm.
Now Phil and Denise Fox having a ONS that was far fetched!!

BiscuitLover3678 · 19/11/2022 16:18

I used to love and how they tackle some storylines but I am DONE with it always being so depressing and killing off everyone. Have some decent characters and happy endings, please. They can still be 90% miserable they just need to chill it 10%.

BiscuitLover3678 · 19/11/2022 16:18

Whatever did they say happened to Spencer btw?

BiscuitLover3678 · 19/11/2022 16:19

The Nana moon days were good

I stopped watching around 5 years ago too. The idea of Sharon being pregnant at the age she was was so ridiculous it put me right off.
