I need to extol the virtues of Claudia Winkleman as a presenter....

...especially as I've come late to the Sewing Bee and am watching it from the start. She gives a masterclass in presenting:-- friendly without overdoing it; interested; gets to the point and so FUNNY. Just a word or look to the camera has me chuckling. Eg. she'll see someone making something a bit saucy and it's cheeky "ring-a-ding-ding" or " you're going to make a see-through tangerine coloured PVC top...why wouldn't you?" then does a pretend retch. Subtle and funny.
Now we have the 'look at me aren't I funny?' (no, you're not) CBEEBies type antics of Sara Pascoe and previously Joe Lycett. I cannot stand all that nonsensical skylarking that they do.
I like her on Strictly too.
i just love Claudia.
Just sayin'

I think she's just brilliant and I'd like to be her best friend. Or at least go drinking with her.

desperatehousewife21 · 16/11/2022 15:04

I absolutely LOVE Claudia, for all the same reasons as the OP.

I also love Natasia Demetriou as a presenter (she plays Nadja in what we do in the shadows series) she presented a show I can’t remember the name but was like bake off/ sewing bee but with garden sculptures (like giant sculptures made from natural materials like wood/ leaves etc) and she was SO naturally funny just like Claudia.

nellflanders · 16/11/2022 15:16

I cannot stand this woman, her stupid hairstyle which almost conceals her eyes is her choice but she is so talentless, she once said she can't believe she is where she is, well neither can I. Since taking over the Saturday morning show I have to switch off, when interviewing guests on the show she is so predictable with her questions as if reading from a script. also the same daft " so tell us where are you and what are you doing at this moment" ??? Also the same false patronising Luvvie comments to callers. YEUK.
Now Sarah Cox, she is real talent, so naturally warm and funny, really down to earth. We should definately see more of her on TV.

LadyEloise1 · 16/11/2022 18:41

I don't believe that the very glamorous Eve Pollard didn't have a mirror in her house when Claudia was young.

I love that quote of @AngelinaFibres that nepotism can open doors and gets you chances others miss out on, but talent keeps you there.
So true.

I think she hides behind a persona.
She's allowed.
I don't think she is as she portrays herself - in looks or in her writings.
But what do I know?

OldPhoto · 16/11/2022 18:46

I think she's fantastic too. She manages to be very attractive (late DH was a huge fan) without being overtly sexy and sexy whist still fully dressed and I agree she's entertaining and warm.

She's brilliant on Would I Lie to you. Look her clips up on You Tube OP.

I think the eyeliner is a bit of a mask, she's said she doesn't get recognised without it in her real life.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 16/11/2022 18:48

She’s dire on dancing. Think Tess drags her down to Tess’s level. It’s sad to see.

Yellowdahlia12 · 16/11/2022 18:56

I don't think anyone can say she is 'talentless.' She's highly intelligent, quick thinking, witty and comes across as genuinely warm and friendly. What's not to like?

Bluetrews25 · 16/11/2022 19:34

Anyone see the big plugging session on the One Show just now for a new show of hers caller The Traitors?
It looks really good!
BBC 1 next Tues 2130, I think.
Anyone in?

BCBird · 16/11/2022 19:40

I don't watch TV much so have never seen her. I have listened to her rafio 2 programme nut think she comes across as awkward. 🙄

shadypines · 16/11/2022 21:28

Bluetrews i will check that out, thanks for heads up.
@AngelinaFibres of course people can be intelligent not be able to do other things eg sew, dance. I meant when people bang on about stuff that they obviously can do or could easily learn to do to some degree. This persona can come across as annoying but Claudia doesn't give me this vibe, totally get she's not everyone's cuppa.

I think she's fab.

wildthingsinthenight · 18/11/2022 13:17

Yes I love her. Her book is fabulous.
She is clever, witty and quick.
You know when she is presenting something that you're in good hands. Not so with Tess.
She is herself and I admire that.
And she hates Summer/hot weather/beaches which is a tick from me! 😁

DameHelena · 18/11/2022 14:11

I love her. Wish she was on more things. I adored her on the Sewing Bee. She's super-bright, witty, self-aware, warm and excellent when it comes to a rapport with everyone. On last week's Strictly when one of the contestants was having an emotional wobble, she stepped in so smoothly yet empathetically. She's a real pro.
And mad as a box of frogs, in the very best way.
