Fully aware of what a shite reputation James Corden has as a human being, but he is a good actor.

I went into this completely blind and enjoyed it. Didn't get as good of a conclusion as hoped for; it all went a bit metaphorical and try-hard-clever but i did like it apart from that.

I def don't want a sequel and the reviews have not been great - the whole world hates JC Grin but did anyone else like it?

Currently on ep 3 and I am enjoying it.

I like the subtle surprises

Bawdrip · 12/11/2022 13:02

Just watched the whole series on one sitting. I like it, timeliness got a bit difficult to follow and the ending was weird. Need a few things explained still, like Lou's story. They were OK in the end? Why did she get pregnant with him if she was plotting revenge all year?

kookookaloo · 12/11/2022 20:21

I watched it all today and enjoyed it. It's by Jez Butterworth who I know more as a playwright, so the unusual style made sense.
It's got bad reviews so far I guess because people really dislike James Corden. But he is a great actor and was fine in this.
A good watch if you want something quirky and interesting.

Tormundsbeard · 12/11/2022 21:30

I binged it tonight and really enjoyed it.
I have questions…. about Lou in particular….
but well written, well acted, well cast and some beautiful locations.

I’d recommend.

they kind of set it up for a potential S2….

heartbroken22 · 14/11/2022 12:56

I've just watched it and the ending was...meh... did they really have to do that?

whatsthestory123 · 19/11/2022 23:22

binging now on episode 3 now

longwayoff · 20/11/2022 12:07

About to watch Ep4 against my better judgement. It's irritating me. Hoping for improvement.

whatsthestory123 · 20/11/2022 13:48

watched it all good twist

VinoDino · 20/11/2022 14:07

I binged it all and was surprised that I liked it, despite JC appearing to be a nob in real life. It was well acted I thought.

GreekGod · 20/11/2022 17:53

I thought it was good, loved the end.

whatsthestory123 · 20/11/2022 18:11

i did have to google and check the ending but enjoyed it but dont want a second series as think where it ended was good enough

GetHappy · 20/11/2022 19:25

Binged watched last night as it was one of them where I just needed to know.
In my opinion was good. Easy to watch, although some parts I felt were rather odd!

Bathtubbathing · 20/11/2022 19:35

I binged and enjoyed. Saw the ending coming a mile off.

The whale thread was really odd.

Loved Sir Tom!

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 20/11/2022 19:36

Wtf was with the end?

Babewhat · 20/11/2022 23:23

I just searched to find a thread about this! I didn’t think i would enjoy it but found it oddly compelling. Sally Hawkins is always wonderful and I thought her storyline was standout - when I read reviews they mostly talked about JC but I found her denial/ fantasy life so interesting. I actually didn’t see the twist coming at all - I think I wish they hadn’t left it open to another series with that last line, as it might have been better self contained with the surreal ending. But on the whole was surprised how good this was.

MassiveSalad22 · 21/11/2022 09:44

I loved it!! But maybe I am simple 😄 every episode had at least one gasp from me 😄

WibblyWobblyTimeyWimeyStuff · 21/11/2022 23:49

I really didn't much like it ...sorry. Sad I found it weird and disjointed and hard to follow. Feels like 2.5 to 3 hours of my life I will never get back!

Oblomov22 · 30/11/2022 22:25

Watching it now. Where she lights it, then whale.

heartbroken22 · 30/11/2022 23:18

The last episode kind ruined it for me. Not sure if we can post spoilers for anyone who hasn't watched but it just felt like it went downhill.

RainBow725 · 30/11/2022 23:21

I found it compelling and I thought JC was very good but bloody hell it was weird!

icelollycraving · 03/12/2022 20:47

I’ve just finished this. I really liked the first couple of episodes then it all went a bit off.

PritiPatelsMaker · 03/12/2022 23:28

I found it oddly compelling too. Watched the first episode abs with a bit of encouragement from DS ended watching the whole series in one night.

Oblomov22 · 05/12/2022 05:49

Only just realised we've watched episode 6, this that's the end!

SequinsandStilettos · 22/12/2022 18:38

Can we talk about this now?
spoilers
Talk about dish served cold.
Hard to know whether it was a long game or whether Amandine just thought sod it, what's good for the goose.
Saw Jeff twist coming a mile off - from the scene when he is reading the sexting out loud. Did not see the muppet/professor actually, twist coming.
Whole thing with Sally Hawkins reminded me of something else (whereby someone contemporary imagines themselves in the life of whose biography they're reading. I thought it was the hours but nope. It might come to me later).
I could relate to the daydreaming.
Quite a nice turn around in thinking Jeff (and then later Jamie) were the hard-done by ones when they'd fucked the women over first.
Whales only ever land on boats or get beached so ending was magical realism/metaphorical clumsiness.
Series two:
Who Jamie slept with
Jamie-Jeff confrontation
Whether Lue continues to bury it or has it out with Jeff/tells Jamie she already knows
None of the characters were particularly likeable or laudable
Title reminded me of chorus to Bad touch/Bloodhound gang, Animals/Marina and the diamonds.
The acting was fine. I credit James Corden with being able to act.
Can see how it would have worked well as a play (even the texting could have been staged effectively, like Closer was).
