Is strictly getting too samey?

I've always loved watched Strictly, for me it's the start of winter before ima celeb comes back <3

But can they do more than just dance? It'd be better if they did other stuff or am I weird?

I wish they would go back to just dancing, instead of titting about with ever more elaborate sets and props. Not to mention they do hardly any actual ballroom anymore.

Yes it is. It's the problem with all of the shows of the same ilk. They just get a bit boring after a while.

Nix32 · 27/10/2022 17:33

I'd like them to go back to everyone doing the same style of dance in the same week - so there's a samba week, a waltz week etc.

I agree. I’m sick of seeing foxtrots and Viennese waltzes where they spend more time faffing about out of hold than in hold.

It's been that way for years though!

Jill Halfpenny was great when she won as she actually, you know, danced??

Rare to see any/many dance moves there now!

WarriorsComeOutToPlayaaay · 29/10/2022 11:49

It’s the same with Bake Off, bored now.

Freddiefan · 29/10/2022 11:50

The judges are awful. The only thing I really enjoy is the music.

AmyandPhilipfan · 29/10/2022 12:01

I still love it. I don't like the couple's choice dances much though. They all seem to do some kind of hip hop/modern dance which everyone goes mad for but I'd rather they chose to do their favourite of the usual Latin or ballroom styles. Or just not have a couple's choice dance at all. Halloween week is always good and film week, though sometimes the films are a bit obscure.

stemthetide · 29/10/2022 13:02

I really enjoy it and certainly wouldn't have other stuff. Plenty of room for improvement though.

The Couple's Choice doesn't work for me, though I've loved a few of them (Giovanni and Faye, Giovanni and Rose, Bill Bailey and Charles Venn spring to mind).

As far as the ballroom and Latin are concerned I would like the dances to be recognisable. Too often now you haven't a clue what they're actually meant to be dancing. And why always the emphasis on telling a story? I just want them to perform a lovely dance!

Yep. Too much of a routine and not enough of a dance.

LizzieSiddal · 29/10/2022 16:12

I was thinking last night that it’s getting rather boring now. I really miss some of the “old” dancers, it’s just not the same when your favourite professional leaves.

I also think they have too many themed weeks. Just concentrate on the dancing!

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/10/2022 16:15

I wish that they would introduce some other "older" but not necessarily ballroom dances like the polka or lindy hop.

peerie · 29/10/2022 16:20

I can hardly watch it now Sad
Please go back to novice dancers all dancing the same dance

BananaGrana · 29/10/2022 16:23

I think it’s this series in particular that’s boring. I’m just not interested in any of the contestants. There’s no one I look forward to seeing each week.

LookItsMeAgain · 29/10/2022 17:41

I'm hoping I've found my tribe here 💃

I think there was a lot to be said for the way that Len Goodman gave out to the pro-dancers saying that they were faffing about for X number of bars in the music and he would deduct points for that if they kept doing it routine after routine.

Also, they appear to have forgotten that you're supposed to be able to identify the dance with the music turned off. I honestly can't tell an American Smooth from a Viennese Waltz from an Old Time Waltz and in some cases even a Tango. Whether this is down to music choice or it being a Strictly 'Week' I don't know.

I am growing increasingly weary of the audience booing everything, and I mean everything that Craig says.

I think the couple's choice should have to stick to one of 3 styles, like the one from Faye & Gio being Theatre/Jazz sticks in my mind because it really stuck to the brief.

Lastly, at least for the moment, why are they scoring the dances so high? I mean if you score one dance from a couple as an 8 or a 9, where do they go from there? Some of the routines are nowhere near being an 8 or a 9 or even a 10.

Mindymomo · 29/10/2022 17:47

I’m not a fan of the themed evening, like movie week or tonight Halloween, but I presume some most enjoy these, or else they wouldn’t do it. I will be watching on my tv in my bedroom as DH said he can’t stand the themed evenings. I don’t know what else they can do to change the programme.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 29/10/2022 17:56

I think the trouble with all these types of show is that they have limited scope to develop so get a bit stale over time. If they don't draw in new viewers then they die because existing viewers move on when they get fed up with the format.

Sparklingbrook · 29/10/2022 17:59

I’m bored of it too and I used to love it. It seems to go on forever and I’m yelling at the tv for them to get on with it.
I would get rid of Tess and Claudia for sure.

MrsMop1964 · 29/10/2022 18:00

Ooh cheers for reminding me it's on, but it's a bad sign that I'm forgetting about it and not looking forward to it like I used to in previous years

peerie · 29/10/2022 18:22

Another thing I am bored of is the judges comments, no originality
They each say exactly the same thing every time 🥱

Sparklingbrook · 29/10/2022 18:25

The judges are like pantomime characters. I used to like hearing what Len said or Arlene because they seemed like grown ups.

The best way to watch the show now is after it’s aired. On IPlayer and whizz through the annoying bits.

That would be great.....and like pp I wish they would all do the same dance

Tess comes across so false. Also too many of them!

IndiGlowie · 29/10/2022 18:32

Love the music and the costumes . Looking forward to Halloween show tonight . The make up is usually amazing . It's a positive clean show .

poorbuthappy · 29/10/2022 18:35

I too hate couples choice. I don't understand how in the spirit of the competition they can have a couple dancing with no rules Vs a couple dancing a specific dance with strict rules.
The high scores early on are bollocks and the bloody standing ovations for everyone are ridiculous.
As for the bonkers CGI at the start of each dance....
Yet I still watch it because when theres a good dance it's still a few minutes or pure joy...I suppose that means I should shut up!

Redcrayons · 29/10/2022 18:35

as well as less titting around and no more couples choice, I’d also take away about 3/4 couple and make it shorter. It’s on for way too long in the first month. I can’t watch it live because it just goes in forever.
