Maybe there's an older thread on this series, it seems to be a repeat from last year, but it's new to me. I only saw it listed yesterday and was interested because it has a character Astrid who from the outset is described as autistic and is shown in a positive light and celebrated for her out of the box thinking in crime-solving. There's also the portrayal of Astrid as behaving very differently to her NT collegues and in the first episode at least, their inability to realise why she's behaving in a certain way in different situations.

Here's a quick run-down of the two main characters without spoilers foreigncrimedrama.com/astrid-review/

I watched it with my autistic adult DD and we enjoyed it, I'd be interested in hearing other peoples' views.

I'd really like to see this, but I don't think it's on Freeview?

NiteGarden · 22/10/2022 19:05

@BlankTimes What channel is it on? Do you mean c4?

Hope you can access it on that link.

I never saw it advertised anywhere, DD found it when she looked through the listings and suggested we give it a try. It's definitely not suitable for children but not as gory as a lot of crime dramas.

I'd heard via discussions on MN on the main and SN boards about autism in France and that it wasn't recognised, so it was very interesting to see the portrayal of an autistic adult woman living and working independently there.

I joined this just to leave a review for Astrid. I enjoyed it so much that I rationed myself to one a night, otherwise I would have watched them not stop. It is a gripping detective series without gratuitous violence and one which grows on you as the characters develop and interact. I was upset when it ended but I am please to note that there is a series 2. 👏 ( No thumbs up in the emojis- weird).

BlankTimes · 24/12/2022 01:51

Thanks, FozyBear, I'm really pleased someone else enjoyed the series as much as me. I too found that every episode was more interesting not just because of the puzzle-solving of the crimes, but of the relationships between the characters which is so heartwarming to watch.

Autism is recognised in France! Macron made a specific address to autistic people during the first Covid lockdown to explain the special dispensations applied to them and to address autism-specific worries.
