Are we really expected to believe that The Crown is fiction?? I am 52, I remember the 90s!

The dialogue was imagined but it had to suit the facts, ie, interviews, tapes, news headlines, royal duties, outings et cetera
They're pushing water uphill telling me it's fiction and Judy Dench has made herself look a bit of a zealot.

I remember the 90s too and it certainly appears too be fiction. Even Netflix don't claim it's the truth.

Of course they have to cover themselves but we must have watched different shows. The "plot" matches the events.

Well yes the point of it is that it matches events, they haven't just made up random storylines. It's just everything around those events has been dramatised.

There are specific scenes of specific conversations that simply didn't happen, and that's not made sufficiently clear. That's the hooha.

Obviously broadly events happened as we all know. How individuals felt, how they reacted, all that is speculation.

I mean, I could write a dialogue between Liz and Boris where she begs him to come back and take over. It would match events. Pretty sure it did t happen though.
