yes, I did,all the way through, which is unusual for me as I drift off generally ! And yes, it was very interesting.

I thought it was going to be that silly Wimbledon film before I realised it was Woody Allen !

castille · 27/01/2008 09:12

Saw it at the cinema a couple of years ago and loved it, thought it was very clever.

Have to admit, I started watching, but decided the acting was so bad, and the gratuitous use of London landmarks so annoying, I turned off after about half an hour.

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/01/2008 09:15

agree about the landmarks bit - the apartment over looking the Houses of Parliament etc..

I liked the acting Allens characters are always a bit clipped and stereotype like that though.London looked amazing and I think he was using it like he does new york as one of the 'characters' if you like,it was directed to be like a tennis match i think

I just felt that while it all works for me when he does it in NY, it felt a bit forced in London. I was really looking forward to it, but I just kept finding fault with it (the sister said 'Oh, I'll have a champagne cocktail' and was handed a Kir Royale - that's how picky I was getting), so I decided it was time to get out.

noddyholder · 27/01/2008 09:23

I must admit i didn't scrutinise it like that!Sat pm 2 glasses of wine i just watched it and really enjoyed it I love seeing london like that since I left there after having a great time there in my twenties!

I really wanted to just sit back and enjoy it. Maybe I'll give it another go another time, having seen how much other people enjoyed it. Perhaps I gave up too soon.

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/01/2008 10:03

is a champagne cocktail not served in a champagne flute then ?

JackieNo · 27/01/2008 10:10

It is, it's just not as purple as what she was handed - there's a bit of brandy in a champagne cocktail, but not enough to turn it the purple colour of the drink she was given (sorry - I know I was being over-picky).

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/01/2008 12:07

picky is good !

Unfitmother · 27/01/2008 12:17

I noticed the champagne cocktail bit, pedant that I am, but otherwise really enjoyed it. Was sure I'd fall asleep but was riveted by it.
