House of the Dragon vs Rings of Fire, which one wins?

Is anyone else watching both? I am - excellent distractions from real world events, although it’s getting a bit confusing with all the various flowing blond locks - is it a Targaryen or is it an elf, have to keep checking the ears…

I think it’s bad luck for Amazon that they’re both out at the same time because HOTD is so much better so RoF suffers by comparison. Bad luck Jeff Bezos 😂.

What do you think? Do you prefer dragons and backstabbing or elves and mystical rings?

Hi there,

I'm watching both and prefer the HOTD by far. The only thing it disturbs me about it is the poor lighting.

MrsSkylerWhite · 11/10/2022 00:31

Aesthetically, Rings of Fire. Storyline, House of Dragons.
neither are a patch on Game of Thrones, though. They both lack big characters.

FortunesFavour · 11/10/2022 00:37

You’re right that neither can hold a candle to the mighty GoT MrsSkylerWhite.

I’m much more invested in the characters and plot of HOTD. Agree that RoF looks great, you can see how much they spent. I’m only really bothered about Galadriel though. Plus the score is hilarious - soaring strings and choirs for the elves but oh look, here come the hobbits, better stick on some folk tunes.

I've loved HOTD much more than GoT. I think the characters (and actors) have been awesome. Matt Smith, Paddy Considine and Rhys Ifans have been brilliant.

I have no opinion of the other one, having cancelled my subscription very recently to save some money.

FortunesFavour · 11/10/2022 00:49

Ooh controversial Parmesam! I really loved GoT, and was worried HOTD would disappoint. It hasn’t though, and I agree that Matt S and Paddy C are brilliant.

🤣
Yep. Lenny Henry and his dodgy accent.
we think The Stranger is Gandolf .

FortunesFavour · 11/10/2022 00:56

Interesting. I hope the stranger is Gandalf, because at the moment he seems kind of pointless. But he fell from space - wouldn’t that make Gandalf an alien?!

Rings of Power, not Fire. I'm hate watching it.

FortunesFavour · 11/10/2022 01:01

Quite right username, I stand corrected. I’m getting it confused with Johnny Cash now!

I love Lord of the Rings but am finding Rings of Power so boring. I have no idea who anyone is and nothing seems to happen. Love House of the Dragon except could do with more warning that something grim is going to happen so I can look away! Could have done without seeing the head being chopped off this week!

FortunesFavour · 12/10/2022 13:16

Yes I agree SecretName. I’m finding it a bit boring too because I don’t really care about the characters. The CGI is great, but character and plot development is lacking in Rings of Power imo.

Back to HOTD: think there’s something a bit wrong with me - I cheered when Daemon beheaded that guy! I was transported back to the gore and surprise character deaths in GoT!

I think they are both rubbish. Found HOD a huge disappointment after GOT.
