I've just finished this Netflix series and bloody hell it is good. Stunningly shot and produced- every shot is just gorgeous. It's a visual feast.

It's in a similar vein to Bridgerton but with more drama and less silliness. I was looking for a thread but couldn't see one which surprised me.

Not in real life. In fact as a youngster Sisi had exchanged letters and gifts etc with another younger imperial brother.
In fact Sophie and Sisi's mother Ludovika were initially hoping for a double engagement- Helene and Franz and Sisi and younger brother.

Re the Romy Schneider films, you must watch them!
They are very old fashioned but Romy is just luminous.
Her real life mother plays her mother in the film, and the casting or Sophie is much better too- to me the Netflix Sophie is much too provocative and modern looking.

I really enjoyed it, but felt like the end of the season was so abrupt. Need season 2!

There were definitely Sapphic overtones in the way Baroness Esterhazy was with Sophie.

Goodness the wedding dress is just exquisite

Haven't watched it, but I've always despised the cult that's grown up around Elisabeth. To compare Franz Joseph with Nicholas II is ill-informed.

Loved this series! Need more!

There's a film coming out shortly about a middle-aged Elisabeth called Corsage, with Vicky Krieps (from Phantom Thread) playing her. It's had good reviews.

And there was another tv mini-series about Elisabeth released in 2009. Did anyone watch that? Looks like it's available on YouTube.
