BBC's Am I being unreasonable?

I binge watched AIBU on BBC iplayer last night and it just made me feel confused and weird.
I thought it was going to be a comedy? There were a couple of amusing moments but it was a lot darker than I expected. I'm guessing the title and references in the first episode were linked to mumsnet and similar forums.

Anyone else watched it?

Oh, the young actor that played her son was great 👍 so I'll give it that.

I loved it. There's already a couple of threads about the series, one a.general chat and one with spoilers.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 28/09/2022 06:29

Yes I thought it was weird genius. I think because daisy may copper is a comedian and played it for laughs at first we were hoodwinked but it was clever and confusing and unexpected.

RooksAndRavens · 28/09/2022 06:34

It probably didn't help that I'd previously watched Ghosts which is a lot lighter and fun.

AIBU just left an ick feeling but maybe that was the point?

I watched it last night and thought it was really good!
Had me wondering if she's on Mumsnet and it was series of Aibu threads?

School mums
Cheating husbands
Domestic abuse
Stalker friends
Quiche

The only thing she didn't put in there was how to make a chicken last 5 days.
Did she use a loo brush?

hockeygrass · 28/09/2022 07:54

Yes Daisy May Cooper is active on MN. It inspired the series. It's worth sticking with.

onmywayamarillo · 28/09/2022 11:58

Love that's she's on here! Hi 👋🏻 🤣🤣

Elsanore · 29/09/2022 21:13

I'm sure the vagina clamping shut at "sweet dreams baby girl" was a real thread!

Also reminded me of a thread the other day about an OLD guy calling OP "cute snow leopard"

FlabbyChungus · 29/09/2022 21:19

This world is a dark and scary place. There is no such thing as comedy in such dark times.

ButAmI · 29/09/2022 21:24

I loved it. I mean Daisy May Cooper is clearly batshit crazy and owes us all royalties, but it was very clever and well made so we will let her off.

MumofHorace · 01/10/2022 01:17

It’s genius. And I’m traumatised.

I finished bingeing it this afternoon and now I can’t sleep.

TimeforZeroes · 01/10/2022 01:41

I thought it was amazing and the whole cast was perfect. I love that she resisted making something to genre. She (and her co writer) are massively talented.

CreateOne · 01/10/2022 04:46

Also binge watched it and loved it. The spoiler thread is interesting as many people picked up on things missed by others.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 01/10/2022 04:53

Just on my last episode now after starting it tonight. Love, love, loved it. I recognised so many themes from here. Gaslighting all over the shop, toxic mil being a brideziller, delusional friends /acquaintances and school drop off cliques.
The only thing that was missing was the MLM huns.

supertato32 · 01/10/2022 06:20

Loved it! I think it was pitched as a dark comedy. A few times I was like, seriously WTF. In the middle of the series she tells her son 'you're just like me.' Or something similar.... and I guess after the cat incident, we find out it's true in the last episode. Think it's a one off, but loved Daisy's character and would have loved another.

DontWorryBeModeratelyHappy · 08/10/2022 17:07

I binged it and thought it was brilliant
Could you post the link for the spoiler thread please? 🙂

elizzza · 08/10/2022 17:32

I loved it! Deranged genius.

Just read an interview with DMC in Grazia where she says she posted on Mumsnet when she was thinking about leaving her husband (they’re now divorced) and the replies helped her leave him.

workiskillingme · 30/10/2022 16:44

I've honestly never related to something so much and it makes me feel sad

Givenuptotally · 30/10/2022 18:32

It was incredibly compelling and I was left disliking the lot of them! The last scene was shocking, not what I was expecting at all. Really enjoyed it, despite the darkness!

Roarsomemore · 04/11/2022 10:20

@supertato32 Wow - I watched it twice and didn't pick up on that.
Best thing I've watched in ages.

MissBattleaxe · 06/11/2022 06:55

There's going to be a second series.
