Alastair Campbell and Baroness Sayeeda Warsi put 12 ambitious Brits through their political paces, as they compete to be crowned Channel 4's Alternative Prime Minister.

Not sure what I think of this... might be worth a watch. Anyone else?

I saw Alastair Campbell talking about this on The Last Leg and it looked interesting. I’ll give it a go.

robertpaulson · 27/09/2022 20:05

I can't work out if it's going to be a massive joke, or more serious?

OP posts:
mytearsricochet · 27/09/2022 20:19

I can’t imagine it being dead serious. I’m picturing something along the lines of The Apprentice.

GreenLunchBox · 27/09/2022 20:19

I'm in!

Should have said 'wonder if they're going to be taking themselves seriously!' A la apprentice!

Im potentially up for this... might have to have an emergency mental exit on hand. Hoping they haven't succumbed to stupid catchphrases.

Should have said 'wonder if they're going to be taking themselves seriously!' A la apprentice!

In that case, I am fully expecting them all to take themselves far too seriously.

robertpaulson · 27/09/2022 20:32

I have a scheduling crisis. This and MAFSUK. Obviously MAFS is utter shit but I've started now

Watching now!

Novum · 27/09/2022 22:00

So they're supposed to come up with a radical policy for primary education, and each "party" can only come up with one gimmicky idea each. There are definite Apprentice echoes, especially the tendency to shout across each other.

PermanentTemporary · 27/09/2022 22:10

Not sure what I'm feeling really. It's quite lacklustre and all about personalities. Presumably if any of them really went for a controversial policy (education vouchers, death penalty) they'd be steered away.

Quite sad that there's not even a glimpse of the work of being a constituency MP, which is supposed to be the basis of our parliamentary system. Suppose that wouldn't be shiny enough. Which tbf does say something real about what's going on in our politics at the moment.

Womencanlift · 27/09/2022 22:25

It’s basically the political version of the Apprentice. Watchable but scary to think delusional idiots like this are probably 10 a penny in the real Whitehall, hence why we are in the state we are in

Liking the combination of Alistair and Sayeeda in their Karen and Claude combined with Lord Sugar roles

PermanentTemporary · 27/09/2022 22:34

I'd like them to all go into a room together and have to negotiate a compromise on both policies. Rather than this mano-a-mano stuff.

I'll admit I ended up quite liking Natalie though. And agreeing with the bit about supporting your leader being part of leadership.

Cuck00soup · 27/09/2022 22:35

Complete rubbish but I enjoyed it! I was going to say what a bunch of deluded idiots but I really shouldn't talk about the actual cabinet like that. Smile

I also like the twist where the losing PM can choose to resign. Or not.

mytearsricochet · 27/09/2022 22:37

It was definitely Apprentice does politics but I enjoyed it. I can see a couple of the contestants are likely to irritate me after a while but there are some decent ones in there. I think Natalie did well and I liked Holly.

ThatWasThat · 27/09/2022 22:54

Pm:‘“It went brilliantly”
Comms:”can we just look at the definition of the word ‘brilliant”?

interesting insights to politics and exposes of approaches

Notlosinganyweight · 27/09/2022 22:58

Haven't watched this, but surely it can't be hard to look good given our current prime minster and the few before that? Even a wheelie bin full of cabbage could do a better job.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 28/09/2022 00:41

I think it was interesting. Shows how easy it is to criticise from the sidelines, but not so easy when you're in the hot seat.

I know I wouldn't have a thick enough skin!!

robertpaulson · 28/09/2022 12:58

Watching now, it's good. Definite Apprentice vibes

Mouldyfoodhelp · 28/09/2022 20:02

Starting it now and having seen one contestant is Jackie Weaver it makes me already feel it's contrived

robertpaulson · 28/09/2022 20:08

READ THEM AND UNDERSTAND THEM!!!

Still watching. Can't stand Rico.

Generally very good show!

Cuck00soup · 19/10/2022 19:46

It really holds a mirror up to Westminster at the moment doesn't it?
