Whatever happened to that programme with the brainy kids?

It was on about a year and a bit ago, and it was supposed to catch up with them every year. Did I miss the second one?

The children were all 'geniuses' and there was a really weird family with brainy children and a lovely wee boy from a very ordinary family who was a chess champion.

Wow! I dropped off the page in about 5 minutes!

I'll keep bumping, cos no-one I know has ever heard of this show, and it'll really bug me if I don't find out about it.

Yup, I remember it....would love to see if social services are on to that really weird mother yet (the one who gave her daughter a roomful of presents for passing her 11-plus!) It turned out both parents had older children from other relationships who had been dumped and hadn't seen their parents in years before spotting them on the programme - perhaps that's why we haven't seen a follow-up yet? Pity, though. It was fascinating.

Was that the programme one genius boy cooked a medieval dinner and the chicken was underdone and but his sister was made to eat it anyway? And there were the parents who were hugely impressed when their horrible brat threw the dad's mobile phone down the loo and offered some clever-clever argument about why he'd done it?

There was a bit of a spate of genius programmes on a year ago though - not sure if it was the same one.

That's the one. I loved the little chess genius, though! He was so down to earth and even adult champions marvelled at his gift and didn't seem to mind being beaten by him -he was just so disarming and took it all in his stride.

www.channel4.com/health/microsites/C/child_genius/ it says there will be a follow up in a year, this page is from last year, but as it would be due to be on in a couple of weeks we would have heard about it if it was going to be on. What was the name of the mother with all of the 'genius' children?

BigPantsRule · 24/01/2008 20:17

Elizabeth and Peter Grafton-Clarke. They were going to sue the Super Soaraway Sun for the report about them, don't know what the outcome was, though. They refuted the reports about their past lives and claimed to be normal - I felt really sorry for those kids, though - undoubtedly very clever but railroaded into careers of their mother's choosing and seeming to have little say in the matter themselves.

I was wondering about this the other day. (Do we all want to see them come to BAD ENDS...)

fartmeistergeneral · 24/01/2008 21:31

Great, thanks for that link!! I had thought it was on about September so thought I had missed the follow up, but it looks like it will be on next month.

waits with bated breath

Oh no Redadmiral, we want to see them reject their pushy parents and end up Perfectly Normal (though preferably after some entertaining going-off-the-rails involving tranvestism and cults).
