Is anyone else watching this on Disney +?

I started it out of curiosity as I enjoy Ryan Reynolds films but am captivated. It’s not what I expected and must be fantastic for the supporters and residents.

Omg anyone watch this weeks?

Anyone want else want to scream at Saskia "leave the idiot!!!"
He won't change!!!

Watching this one now. Wonder what the Americans make of this?

MichaelAndEagle · 03/10/2022 21:57

I seem to be developing a little crush on Phil Parkinson for some reason 😳

Jewel1968 · 07/10/2022 03:12

I am learning so much about football generally. The one on hooliganism was fascinating.. how the chap explained the attraction, how he forgot his shite week, for once I kinda understood the behaviour. But yes, Saiska you probably should cut your losses.

I have a few male friends who all love football and when they start talking about it I kinda glaze over. Can't wait for it to happen cos now I will join in. I suspect I will annoy them by asking lots of questions like - do you think the striker makes the team? Or whatever it is Phil says. And do you think swearing a lot at half time motivates or demotivates a team.

I’m from Wrexham and as to why they bought the club, it was the Racecourse. It’s a lower league club that has a ground that can fit 13,000 people in. When the Kop is developed, you can add another few thousand. It means that if they can get a decent crowd in with minimal investment.

The history of adversity in Wrexham helps as well. Mining, steel, heavy industry all declined and the team did the same. Makes a great backdrop to what I hope will be fascinating rise to the next league.

I’m also reliably informed that we weren’t the first club they approached. They were turned down because the owners were suspicious of motive.

Episode 12 was a tear jerker.
There is so much more to this series that I expected

We watched it last weekend, really enjoyed it. Good to see they didn't try to hide the hooligan stuff, but I found the Saskia story pretty heartbreaking.

washingbasketqueen · 08/10/2022 01:18

We're obsessed! Love it. Come on Wrexham ( we're Irish!).

That’s an interesting point about the Racecourse that I hadn’t thought of before. You’re right that it means they’re able to attract high ticket sales not just now but during redevelopment, presuming they start by rebuilding the Kop and get that open before they start on the next stand. If they were starting with a club that only had a capacity of 1-2000, which wouldn’t be unusual at their current level, there’s be a lot less ticket money coming in even if the ground fills every week.
They are obviously putting a lot of their own money in, but they do seem to be at least considering long term financial sustainability.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/10/2022 19:34

I look forward to this every Thursday.
I find it really even handed and heartwarming

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/10/2022 19:43

I didn't think Rob was to impressed with the guy who said Ryan was "fucking disgraceful' considering they pay his wages, I imagine that a word was had off camera.

PhilistineWazzock · 09/10/2022 20:58

Saskia definitely needs to dump that loser and get the job she wants.

Jewel1968 · 09/10/2022 21:11

Saskia's father was in a band. Did she say it was the band - James? Of the Sit Down song? I love that song.

LemonSwan · 09/10/2022 21:20

Totally a Wrexham fan now. Much to DPs disappointment

julie81 · 09/10/2022 21:48

I am from Wrexham and loving it. Family have always supported the team and my partner and son do now. S4c have a 3 part series starting Wednesday too re the team.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/10/2022 18:43

Just finished the last episodes, such lovely heartfelt stuff from start to finish. I'm glad it's getting a second series.

MichaelAndEagle · 13/10/2022 20:42

Won't post a spoiler but what a nailbiting final episode.

Pumpkinsbeinghitbyfallingapples · 13/10/2022 20:45

I'm from near there and used to go and watch them a lot as a child, I'm loving the publicity they have brought to the town as well as the club

nomdegrrr1 · 13/10/2022 22:10

I started watching because Ryan Reynolds and I have family near there. I've carried on watching because it's extraordinarily well done.

I wonder what the end outcome will be. The merchandise is flying off the shelves, they've persuaded the National League to consider streaming games, and all sorts of people from around the world, including loads from the USA, are taking an interest in the club.

I feel that it's like watching the first pebbles in an avalance.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/10/2022 22:14

I do wonder about the long term and what happens if promotion doesn't happen this year, it may become a money pit to Rob and Ryan

Jxtina86 · 18/10/2022 21:59

Can someone help/guide me - I really want to watch this series but I cannot find it on Disney+...! I've searched - nothing comes up. Profile is definitely not restricted (I.e I can see other shows than just the main Disney stuff - national geo/star etc). I'm accessing via the sky q box if that makes a difference... just very confused! Sorry to hijack the thread by not actually discussing the doc itself (yet anyway!) Thank you!

It’s there.

Trees6 · 18/10/2022 22:02

It’s excellent. Something a bit different.

It’s there.

Coming back to say you're right. It is there. If your account isn't restricted to age 14 and below as mine apparently was 🤦🏼‍♀️

nomdegrrr1 · 18/10/2022 22:47

I suppose that the language gets a bit strong so I can understand the restriction. Especially when Phil gets 'Enthusiastic'

MichaelAndEagle · 29/11/2022 20:49

Looking at the Wales squad and noticed some past Wrexham players, got me thinking when series 2 will start?
Also apparently Wales being in the world Cup making people realise around the world that Wales is not in England but a separate country!!
Love Wales being on the world map!
Yma o hyd!! Cymru am byth!!
