House of the dragon - thread for those who have read Fire and Blood too

Just thought rather than try to be careful what to say on the main thread, a second thread that can relate to the book might be useful 🙂

The thought that made me create it - do we know how many children Alicent has had at the point we are at currently (end of episode 4)? I was wondering because of the many "the king is going to die soon" comments I have seen, and feel I can't disagree with without explaining! 😁

Anyone know why the showrunners decided to make Viserys already middle aged in episode one, when in the book he was only 29 when Aemma died?

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 21/09/2022 20:50

No idea why they changed Visaerys's age and personality. Not a scooby. I guess if they had set their heart on Matt Smith for Daemon then they'd need someone a bit older than him, but Paddy C is a full ten years older and made up to look more like twenty. I'm not particularly unhappy with their choices, because book V isn't especially interesting, but like you I do wonder how and why they decided to go this particular route.

Possibly because they wanted Rhaenyra to be older than in the book, as she was only 8 when named Vicerys' heir.

Rhaenys · 21/09/2022 22:32

They shed up Dany for GoT too. I think it was due to sex scenes.

peaceandove · 21/09/2022 22:34

Could be? I know the showrunners on GOT deliberately added several years to all the 'children' in order to make their actions more acceptable. Book Arya was only 8 and book Daeny only 13 when she married Drogo etc.

peaceandove · 21/09/2022 22:35

Oops cross posted. Yes, book Daeny was only 13 and enjoying sex with Drogo who was 28! In the show it's implied that she's 16, I think?

WhathaveIdoneagain · 26/09/2022 15:17

What do we think will happen in the next few episodes? Will they finish the whole Dance in the four episodes? If they do, my guess is:

  1. Daemon and Rhaenyra marries
  2. Dragonseeds, maybe Blood and Cheese
  3. The Dance
10. Aegon II and Aegon III or Daemon at the Gods Eye
WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 26/09/2022 15:39

It's definitely renewed for season 2. Best guess from the showrunners is that the dying of the dragons plotline will last 3/4 seasons. If after that there's still huge appetite for more then they could flash back to Aegon's Conquest for a couple of seasons and then forward to Blackfyre Rebellion. I think Dunk and Egg is intended as a whole other series.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 26/09/2022 17:27

I want Dunk and Egg, please

Rhaenys · 26/09/2022 21:19

I want Dunk and Egg, please

I hope they adapt it. I think people will really respond to it well.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 27/09/2022 07:15

The Blackfyre Rebelion would be easy to do. It would be more in keeping with the GoT show, so it could be more popular with non-readers.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 30/09/2022 13:23

The new trailer looks exciting:

Rhaenys · 30/09/2022 19:52

Sorry not watched the last episode yet. Just not been in the mood for fire and blood.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 03/10/2022 07:54

Rhaaenyra!!!!!!! Shock

(burns black wardrobe, goes out gets new green frock)

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 03/10/2022 08:01

Actually I take that back, a plague upon the lot of them (I do realise that I'm getting the point of the entire plot slightly late in the day). Can I be pink and yellow stripes for Team Rhaenys.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 03/10/2022 08:05

Actually I take it back even further, I rewatched the ending after a cup of coffee.

(gets black frock out again, has never worn green).

WhathaveIdoneagain · 03/10/2022 09:46

🤣 It looks like it will be an interesting episode based your reactions @WinterIsComingKnitFaster

I am Team Rhaenys, though. Her epitaph in the books gives me the chills every time.
Beloved daughter of Lady Jocelyn Baratheon and Prince Aemon Targaryen, faithful wife to Lord Corlys Velaryon, mother and grandmother, the Queen Who Never Was lived fearlessly, and died amidst blood and fire. She was fifty-five years old.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 04/10/2022 07:19

So does that ending mean we will find out what happens to Daemon at the end of the Dance? I would love to know.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/10/2022 19:35

Don't understand why they are going with 6 children for Rhaenerya and only 3 for Alicent Confused

WhathaveIdoneagain · 10/10/2022 19:59

Isn't that how it was in the books? Aegon and Heleana have 3 children as well.
So Aegon II, Helaena and Aemond v Luke, Jace and Joffrey.
Then Jaehaerys, Jaehaera and Maelor v Aegon III and Viserys II.

Also Viserys was in no shape to father more children.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 10/10/2022 20:30

Alicent had four

WhathaveIdoneagain · 10/10/2022 20:35

Sorry, I forgot about Daeron.

Rhaenys · 12/10/2022 12:48

Have we seen Daeron in the show yet? I can’t recall seeing him.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 12/10/2022 13:38

Daeron is alive and well and living in Oldtown according to George.

Rhaenys · 12/10/2022 16:00

Seems a weird decision to exclude him but include everyone else. Perhaps they’re leaving it open to exclude him altogether like they did with the other 2 Tyrell brothers in GoT?
