It's really good, I kind of love her!
A very thoughtful portrayal of this character's autism, no suggestion that she represents anybody else! She is exactly herself.

The court room drama stories are good too.
Korean stuff not usually my thing.
I've only watched squid games and this and they couldn't be more different

We loved it absolutely loved it. Now on Young lady and gentleman which is still Korean but different genre. Liking it so far.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/09/2022 14:59

We also loved it

Now looking for my next Korean drama

Loved it too - so much I had to binge watch it 😂 Completely fascinating to hear/see a little about Korean culture, and especially their laws ... unless I'm being an idiot and the laws they quoted (about divorce, property, contracts and gambling) were all made up? 🤔😁

J0y · 11/09/2022 17:18

I'd say the laws were real!
The flash back of her tantruming as a child outside a shop and her dad couldn't get her to behave until he said "you're breaking law 78 noise on the street preventing sales"

My 16 yo ASD daughter loved it and got us all into it.

I started watching this on Netflix with much reservation, as I often find Korean dramas too twee. I was also assuming they would deal with autism in a klunky way, especially with the character being yet another portrayal of someone on the spectrum being a savant.

Then I got to episode three... This episode made me bawl my eyes out! It is all the things I mentioned above, but it's also incredibly endearing and manages to deal with some aspects of autism incredibly well. The Pengsoo episode dealt with the broad range of autism well and that's from a parent of DC on the spectrum, who normally hates how autism is displayed on TV shows.

I'm completely hooked now and this show really is a gem.

Loved it and can’t wait for the part 2!

So glad to find other people who loved this series. Am hoping there is another series to come. Have watched several historical K-dramas but this is the first one in a current setting. As well as being great stories it felt as though they were giving real insight into how someone with autism experiences the world.

sorrynotathome · 20/12/2022 06:32

Strange that you thought all Korean TV programmes would be the same 🙄

TentoFive · 20/12/2022 06:37

Our favourite TV series of the year.

”Whoa, whoa” (with the hand gesture) is now frequently employed in this house.

Sulusu · 21/12/2022 14:13

It's getting a second series, but not until 2024 apparently.

I don't think Squid Game is really a 'Korean drama'. Well, obviously it is in the sense that it's a drama and it's Korean. But it's style is more Netflix than typical Korean drama. The director hawked it around various Korean TV channels for years before getting NF to take it, with great results.

Korean dramas tend to be heavy on slapstick humour, wildly implausible storylines, extensive padding and twee romance. All of the above definitely feature in 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo', but the acting is amazing and I loved the central character. I also liked the strong female friendships, something we don't see enough of on TV.

Apparently there's going to be a series 2, which is interesting as most Korean dramas are 'one and done'.
