Marriage - BBC1

Did anyone watch it last night? I thought it was really good. Sean Bean and Nicola Walker are a bit of a dream team.

Reading reviews went from sublime to absolutely boring. I went for the former but realise it's not everyones cup of tea seeing the daily routine of a marriage.

Hopefully Sean doesn't get killed in this one!

I loved it! My OH hated every minute of it and has told me he won’t be watching the rest….! It is quite slow and not the usual action packed, fast paced drama he’s used to but I really enjoyed it. I can’t imagine anything Sean Bean and Nicola Walker are in not being good.
Not sure what the “to the side, to the side, around, around, in the middle etc…” is all about though? Did I miss something? 🤔

GoodnightJude1 I didn't understand the 'music' either. When it first came on I thought it was playing over the plane intercom!

Had high hopes for this but found it a bit bleak to be honest and stopped watching after about 45 minutes

it was dire and depressing, as I said on the other thread if it was my marriage I'd slit my wrists. I've been married 24 years so no rose tinted glasses here.

yes a get daily drudgery of marriage is just that, but these characters have no connection at all, it was like watching 2 strangers put in a house and told to pretend they know each other.

I thought the ‘around, around’ thing was to show that their arguments and falling out happened frequently, so it goes around and around.
I struggled to make out what they were saying when they were at the back of the queue to get in the plane.
I think it will be slow, just like Mum was, but it will get there in the end.

I liked it. Such a change to see people dressed like people you might see in the street instead of an artful “normal person costume”.

I do like it when shows portray people living in normal houses, not massive 4-5 bed ones when they have very regular jobs.

It's just a shame that when these shows do this all the characters are portrayed as depressed and boring. I liked Alma's Not Normal because it showed poor people being happy for a change (although a bit dysfunctional with it).

Just watched the first one now. It seems a bit confusing now but I’m sure it will all come together.
I didn’t get where the girl from the gym went into the loo, then the boyfriend went looking for her, but then she arrived back in the pub in a different jacket. Don’t get it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Almas not normal was fabulous compared to this.
I've been married for ever and it isn't as dull as this is !! 😂
Mind you , they have clearly had a terrible loss , so maybe I'm being a bit harsh here and there is a lot going on too
I will carry on with though.

My take on the theme tune is about their relationship : they side step each other around their actual feelings about the really important things. Hence why she started on about the potatoes.
The dad said Emma's husband ( can't remember his name ) was controlling, the exact words she said about the boyfriend.

I'm just watching it. There are a lot of layers. I'm glad I've watched past the 30mins but it's hard work.
The other side to the conversations just shows how we all interpret things differently.
It's OK but I'm not sure I'll watch another one...

The theme music makes me jump out of my skin too as it's so loud.

I watched it on catch up and wasn't expecting much after the reviews but I really enjoyed it, find it very intriguing! Didn't get the bit where the leisure centre girl was in the toilet pub with boyfriend outside and then different clothes and hair either..she must have had a change of clothes for after work..I wonder where that's going to go as why bother introducing the boyfriend..so many unanswered questions..

Thought the first one was slow but second episode better. The characters seem to have a strained relationship as if they are trying too hard to make it be ok. The music is dire though and think its trying to be arty but its just annoying. Expect I'll watch all 4 parts and it'll have a shit ending! Always fall for the BBC drama hype and do this. I never learn.la😅

I watched ep 1 last night with DH. Was strangely compelling even though really dull. There’s obviously subtext that maybe Dean has problems… possible control(FIL mentioned it), possibly OCD, possible stalker? The DD boyfriend was horrible but I was so frustrated that Nicola didn’t pick up on what she was saying and offer some wise words. The girl Maxine in the toilet ???? Hoping that will become clear.
