I’m surprised there’s not a thread about it already, anyone watch last night?

I wasn’t sure about it being 2 hours long but I was hooked the whole time, loved it.

Yes we enjoyed it! We didn’t think we would watch the whole two hours, but in the end we didn’t want to leave it. Good storyline.

the80sweregreat · 08/08/2022 08:36

I love Marc Warren and Brad too.

Missingthesea · 08/08/2022 17:30

We enjoyed it too. Personally I'm always happy to spend a couple of hours looking at Marc Warren's cheekbones 😋

the80sweregreat · 08/08/2022 20:20

I was so upset when we parted ways with Sky tv due to cost and I never did see the end of ' mad dogs '
Marc was good in that. I think he looks a bit like Sting.
Last night was good. I haven't really watched it properly before , but Dh is a fan.
I'm a bit in love with the Brad character now too

SomethingWycked · 08/08/2022 20:25

Another fan here! This is the 2nd season, the 1st may be on ITV hub. I think the acting is fabulous, I have a secret crush on Job personally but Piet is very nice to look at.

Hendrick the autopsy guy is the one for me, silver fox that he is!

I watched it but still annoyed that they messed with the original theme tune.
oranjeboom, oranjeboom it’s a lager not a tune……
anyone younger than me won’t remember that!

the80sweregreat · 09/08/2022 09:37

I remember the original theme tune.
Dh was whistling it before it came on Sunday night ( annoyingly)
'Eye level ' was number one in 1973 by the Simon park orchestra.
I was only 8 then and my parents didn't watch it.

RaraRachael · 09/08/2022 11:54

I didn't particularly like the first series but stuck with it for the Amsterdam scenery. Wasn't impressed with last night's episode - I'm never a fan of these cases that are connected with some far fetched link that somebody just happens to work out.

It's a bit like Murder in Provence - totally British cast transported to Amsterdam talking in English accents 🤔

CurlsandCurves · 09/08/2022 15:24

@RaraRachael re the accents I’m sure I read when the first series came out that they made the decision for everyone to use their own accents to make it more natural. As opposed to the audience sitting at home going ‘What accent is THAT supposed to be?’ 😆

I could watch moody marc Warren every single day, he is just sex on legs!

Viciouslybashed · 09/08/2022 16:16

Just watching on catchup and there is a weird bit where he is on his boat kissing a woman goes to ad break and then they are at the pier and I've not a clue what's going on. Is a bit missing.

Yes - I watched it through ITV hub, and they must have got the edit wrong. There was a big chunk missed out, they solved the case, and then after the next break we were back in the middle.

iklboo · 14/08/2022 17:11

I'm still scarred by the theme music to the original <shudders at memories of skipping round the school hall in my knickers & vest, chucking up and catching a bean bag>

Davros · 14/08/2022 22:30

Mark Warren is Elton in Doctor Who to me. I think he's kinda ugly but he's a good actor and I like him.
It's like Kenneth Branagh as Wallender and Rowan Atkinson as Maigret

midsomermurderess · 14/08/2022 23:26

There are quite a few decent Dutch series on eg Walter Presents, Blood Pact, The Affair, Swingers so this feels odd to me, an English remake of a Dutch original with Dutch extras. Amsterdam is always worth looking at though.

Davros · 15/08/2022 11:07

I didn't think it was a Dutch original, just set there. I'll have to Google

iklboo · 15/08/2022 20:59

You're right @Davros - it was only set there. It was a British TV series. I think most of the actors were from the UK.

I’m old enough to remember that as well - Barry Foster was Van
my parents loved that show ❤️

iklboo · 15/08/2022 21:40

Noooooo! You've set off the memories again!

Der der der, der der der, der der der der der der der, der der der der der der der derrrrr

'Iklboo! Stop dropping your beanbag! Lift your knees!'

<shudder>.

lazymum99 · 15/08/2022 22:05

OMG memories of gym knickers. Who the heck thought it was alright for girls to prance around in those. Please tell me this didn’t continue after the 1970s

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 15/08/2022 22:09

I just can't understand why it's called Van der Valk. He's nothing like the original character so could have been another detective in Amsterdam

CurlsandCurves · 17/08/2022 21:08

I remember performing the original theme tune as part of our school orchestra.

My parents watched the original but were put off by the 2 hours of the new one. I’ve said they should give it a go .
