Chicago Med - should all the doctors be struck off, or just most of them?

I'm all for hospital drama nonsense. I've watched ER so much I can nearly recite it. I decided to binge watch Chicago Med. It's probably the worst thing I've ever seen. I know it's TV land, but honestly, the completely irresponsible doctoring, totally unethical about treatments either given or withheld and lack of respect for patient autonomy are ridiculous. And what's with bringing every patient back down to the ED after all major surgery? Currently watching an episode where the patient back down to the bloody ED after a fucking heart transplant.*

*obviously I'm going to keep hate watching and shouting at the telly.

There's that Doctor that runs everywhere snapping on his gloves, Can't remember his name.

Must be Dr Choi 😂

Gubu · 05/08/2022 20:48

And the number of ultra rare conditions that land into the ED on a daily basis and are diagnosed in a couple of hours is impressive. Instead of the average 8 year diagnosis time in the real world...

Chicago fire, 911, 911 lone star, new Amsterdam are all my guilty pleasures!

It's because they run a trillion tests, all of which are abbreviated... I have no clue what a cbc, pbp, or any of those are. And April listens to the long list and nods. Only once did I ever see her take notes, on the iPad. Not once seen any blood drawn. Thst part happens by magic. And in 3 minutes the results are back.

IDrinkCoffee · 05/08/2022 20:58

Oh goodness, I love Chicago Med but I totally hear you.

Like Dr Rhodes who's a cardiac surgeon but apparently can dip in and do brain surgery too!? Or how miraculously a dying patient comes in, just at the same time another one needs a pair of lungs. They just happen to be a match and hey, waiting list? What waiting list?

You mostly have to suspend all rational thought when you watch. I kinda fancy Dr Halstead though so I persevere.

whywhywhy5 · 05/08/2022 21:03

It's the worst! Did you see the episodes where Natalie gave birth and so prettily breastfed for the first time in a corner under a cover, not needing to check latch ever and prancing about in size 8 clothes and flat stomach the day after?!

I saw it having recently given birth myself while fluid was gushing out of every fucking where on my body. Really wound me up.

I know what a cbc is- complete blood count. My doctor friend George Clooney told me.

Yaya da Costa is so beautiful though. And hasn't aged a day since ANTM.

I'm sure the doctors of New Amsterdam are worse, but it still makes me cry every damned episode.

Then there's the one set in Texas, but I can't remember what it's called. Lots of the Drs are soldiers.

I’m currently undergoing my medical training by binge watching Chicago Med. Are you actually saying I won’t have a decent knowledge of medicine after all this hard work? It can’t be true!

Dr Manning is the epitome of lollipop head - she is so skinny it’s a wonder her head stays on.

I’m staying for Dr Halstead.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 06/08/2022 09:18

I will forever remember “cbc and chem 7” from watching ER. I miss that show.

imagakster · 06/08/2022 09:24

i'm so loving watching this as a nurse I find it hysterically funny.
Binge watching last night my son came in and said zAPANDA!! Are there no vets in chicago!!
Until he pointed it out Inwas just sucked into the whole thing of a giant panda in the operating theatre!!

PuttingDownRoots · 06/08/2022 10:07

Panda was brilliant. And oddly logical that a heart surgeon might be needed to help a vet as pandaheart surgery would be a rare skill...

liveforsummer · 06/08/2022 10:27

Dd12 adores it. I guess at that age you question less. I suppose it's quite enjoyable when you just want to chill. I always complain when she puts it on then find my self engrossed 😆

iklboo · 06/08/2022 11:11

ER will never be topped. OK it went a bit shark jumpy with Romano & the helicopter but there were some damn fine episodes.

Oh yeah, Dr Choi!

"Dr Choi! Baghdad! Stat!"

Dr Choi emerges from wherever he was, snap, snap.

Every time! 😂

PuttingDownRoots · 06/08/2022 13:09

Why is it called Baghdad? Is that ever explained?

It's the trauma bay where they treat all the patients who have been shot.

I think they use it from the beginning but there is a scene later on where Dr Choi has a future army medic shadowing him to get experience of bullet injuries and he tells them he sees just as many in chicago as he used to when he was in service.

Workyticket · 06/08/2022 13:37

Oh I love it!! I even downloaded some episodes to watch on the plane for my holiday 🤣🙈

chilling19 · 06/08/2022 14:00

Another fan here. Love Med and Fire. Tolerate 911, quite like The Rookie and Blue Bloods. Also like New Amsterdam. Love SVU.

soundsofthesixties · 06/08/2022 14:03

SlatternisMymiddle name.
ER is on All4. The whole series. Took me months to plow through it all again. It was as wonderful as I remember,

Blue Bloods gives me so much rage. Danny walking into every fire fight in front of the SWAT team, Erin and her investigations, and Frank must be locked half the time. And all so fucking sanctimonious and righteous. I think Danny's wife got herself shot to escape the lot of them.

Ooh I didn't know either, I don't recall them ever saying, but at the very beginning someone asks and they said they'll find out or somesuch.

I've started Fire now, it's a bit slow imo. And everyone looks so young compared to the snippets of them appearing in Med. Especially Kelly. He's still fine though.

And Dr Bekker, good lord the beginning episodes of her in were dire, that fake SA accent. And the way they pronounce Groote Schuur, which is the hospital she came from. You think they would have done a little research to pronounce that correctly. It is not pronounced Groot Skoo as they said. 🤣

Oblomov22 · 06/08/2022 17:29

I only liked it when dr Halsted wanted to be with dr manning. When she slept with Dr Crockett, I lost interest.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 06/08/2022 18:53

I love Chicago Fire and PD but only lasted 3 episodes with Med. It is absolutely awful! The acting, the script, everything.

PeloAddict · 07/08/2022 12:15

Thanks to this thread, I've now started watching Chicago med GrinBlush
