I think it would be around 1990-93 when I saw a documentary type film - it's a tragic, sad, heart-breaking story that stuck in my mind although it's all a bit vague.
I can't remember if it was mainly set in an African or a middle eastern country - lots of sandy backstreets and possibly desert - although they were both westerners - he was a bearded guy - a photographer/film-maker/photojournalist - and she was a tall attractive long haired blonde model type. They did a lot of travelling on his motorbike. Unfortunately he suffered a very serious head/brain injury as a result of a bike accident (I think or maybe just a stroke)
The documentary shows her trying to look after him and coming to terms with the abrupt change in their life as a consequence. The girlfriend decided to piece together photos and footage that her boyfriend had taken to document their lives and adventures. Eventually though, she found looking after him too difficult - she decided that she must get on and live her own life as she can't no longer be in a relationship with him as he requires so much support.
I find it hard to believe it was all fictional - I really wondered if there was a way follow up on that story and find out who they were and what happened after that. I'd like to see the film again.
I've asked about this before on various sites and generally had no replies however I did get one reply from someone who definitely recognized my description.
