Wow! This is amazing! I’m halfway through episode 5 right now and it’s just getting better.

I love all the little Easter Eggs relating to the games like the moonlight sonata song, the dog, the guy with the chainsaw.

The acting is great. The storyline is fantastic. I love the actresses playing Albert’s young daughters.

So much better than the films. Anyone else watching?

Yes, just finished e5 too and really really enjoying it! I definitely played the video games when younger but don’t really remember them, but loving the series anyway.

MrsAlbertaWhisker · 19/07/2022 23:43

Glad you’re enjoying it too. I have just finished the series tonight and I am obsessed! Absolutely amazing. Really hope Netflix signs up for a season 2. What a cliffhanger! Love the character of Evelyn.

Watched it in 2 days and I loved it. Bring in series 2.

EverydayImPuzzling · 21/07/2022 09:14

Finished it last night, loved it!

Reviews are generally poor - I don’t get it! Take it for what it is and it’s great. Fun, entertaining, a fair bit of cheesiness. Apparently people have an issue with the dialogue but I thought it was a good watch.

Ooooh I'm hoping to start watching this with DD as soon as possible, glad it's good, I loved the first film, Milla Jovovich was awesome - I'll never forget that scene where the criss cross lasers cut that bloke up like a chunk of cheese z🤢

But yes, after being bowled over by All of Us Are Dead I'm definitely looking forward to this!

Trixiefirecracker · 22/07/2022 16:16

It gets worse. Mean there’s unbelievable really very stupid…. I won’t spoil it for you but was initially really enjoying it.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 22/07/2022 16:52

Just about to start ... 🧟

MrsAlbertaWhisker · 23/07/2022 11:24

Sorry to hear you’re not enjoying the series @Trixiefirecracker ! I am going to rewatch it. 🤭

I am really surprised by the poor reviews for it. really hope Netflix renews for a second series.

I was obsessed with the games when they came out and love all things RE. I liked the first Mila Jocovich film but not the later ones as they strayed so far from the original story.

I’ll tell you what’s garbage - the latest RE film that came out at the start of the year. Welcome to Racoon City. I love that it sticks to the original game with the mansion so it actually feels like the computer game, but the acting and dialogue is dreadful.

I had high hopes for this but was really disappointed

Hereforthedramaz · 23/07/2022 19:56

I found it a bit slow to start with but it got going in the last few episodes I thought. I'd definitely watch another series.

Personally I was watching it for the ridiculousness, same as all the other resident evils!

Bert was a particular favourite!

StolenWillowTree · 24/07/2022 20:10

It's better than the reviews indicate but not well-written.

The actor playing the dad is incredible. The scene in the school office with the bullying was so good. However the tonal shift between "light high school drama" and "dystopian zombie horror" is too much.

The two actresses playing the female lead (aged 14 and aged 28) don't look anything like each other, and and look too close in age. The actress playing Teen Jade is playing younger than she is, and the actress playing Adult Jade is playing older when there really needs to be a significant age difference between the two, as the older one while a decent actor simply doesn't look like a mother and someone who's spent 14 years travelling a post-apocalyptic wasteland fighting zombies.

cushioncovers · 25/07/2022 08:30

Stolen you've summed it up perfectly.

Trixiefirecracker · 25/07/2022 08:31

I just thought the triplet thing was too much! 😂

cushioncovers · 25/07/2022 08:33

Yes I thought that was stupid and didn't add anything to the story at all

MrsAlbertaWhisker · 25/07/2022 17:57

I loved Bert! And love the name given at the end for the girls to go to ahead of season 2. Amazing character from the games. I have a feeling that she is one of the twin’s biological mother who donated her eggs (they explained they have the same dad but different mums).

Just finished watching this.

I thought it was ok, definitely not as bad as some reviews; and yes some parts were a little far fetched, but overall an ok watch!

I really liked Bert 😂

Valhalla17 · 27/07/2022 01:20

Really enjoyed it but they were starting to get on my wick with their dumb choices...

StolenWillowTree · 27/07/2022 16:07

Ugh, I know. It's so hard to root for Jade over Billie when she is just so, so stupid.

Sister being bullied? Put on a disguise and punch the bully!
Sister freaked out that her dad's work uses animal experimentation? Break in to his work to examine the animals being experimented on!
Experimenting on zombies that are attracted to blood? Stand right next to them in a rusty metal shed without bothering to cover your skin or take any care to avoid cutting yourself!
Want to experiment on zombies? Smuggle one into your home!
Want to defeat your sister? Unleash your brain-controlled 50ft pet crocodile!

Okay the crocodile looked cool, but most of these were just so dumb. The pregnant assistant was just very poor writing too - they aren't willing to take the time to write decent characterisation so they just throw in a line about her being pregnant so that we're sad that a walk-on character died.

I also want to know how the ship gets food and fresh water, and all the resources necessary for the inhabitants to have beautiful clean new clothes and live in nice well-decorated bedrooms with vases and throw rugs, and do normal things like send their kids to ballet lessons and attend piano concerts. How do ballet classes even exist in a post-zombie apocalypse universe? How does capitalism even exist? Who is buying enough product to generate income for Umbrella shareholders? How does the Umbrella corporation make money when everyone is either zombiefied, dead, or struggling to survive in tiny survivor communities like the Dover shanty town or the insane cult stronghold?

On the flipside I adored the clones. Just such incredible acting. Lance Reddick is known for playing very serious characters so it was a delight to see the beautifully nuanced comedy and goofiness he brought to Bert.

Between the comedy clone, villain dance routine and giant croc the end of the series went so off the wall mental I kinda fell in love with it.

I need to stop taking this stupid show so seriously.
