Loved Wet Leg and St Vincent so far - enjoying Billie Ellish right now.

Been to the festival 5 times and it's great fun but I am enjoying being indoors and comfy and warm and clean - must be getting old!

Joining late - god this is awful. Why do these ageing rockers insist on playing new stuff. Its an inevitable crowd killer, he even acknowledged it saying the mobile phones light up when he plays the classics and it's a black hole when he sings the new stuff!

Is it vanity? Does he actually thik his new stuff will go down well in a gig like this? Anyone could have told him that the crowd just want to hear the classings and have a good singalong!

WildThing87 · 26/06/2022 00:02

It has maybe already been talked about here but I'm being a bit lazy... but did bbc cut Olivia Rodrigo's set? I was watching it, but then we had guests in and out and I wasn't paying 100% attention and turned it over when I thought she was finished. But I've just seen she had lily allen come on! So either I was an eejit and just turned it over too soon, or they cut it. Likely to be the first option tbf

To be fair, that's very 97. And it was the days before non music lovers went. My dad would have hated that one. I did Reading in 97. I think the line up was v similar, if a bit more rock.

Maybe that's it - more non-music fans go these days? People who just want to hear tunes they know backwards.

I only picked 97 because I happened to be there that year, but I bet the lists for the rest of the 90s are similar - predominantly acts that were at the cutting edge at the time.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 26/06/2022 00:02

I've given up. Can't cope with any more of this drivel.

Watching Jessie Ware on the Park Stage now.

Notoironing · 26/06/2022 00:03

@biscuiteer thank you. I’ve had some wine and really loving it! 😂
I do think that there should be current acts headlining though - just to prove that rock music is NOT dead!

Pretty sure I was at reading in 96 too. Those were the days

97!

Sparklingbrook · 26/06/2022 00:03

Better, maybe Yellow Submarine is on it's way after all.

Octomore · 26/06/2022 00:03

Jessie Ware would be better on main stage tbh. She's very good.

Do you think artists realise when they are bombing?

He noticed and sounded a bit put out that people only had their phones up for Beatles songs.

Exactly! If the kids are listening to the same music as their parents did, it's a sign rock is in trouble!

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2022 00:04

The foels were brilliant
Rock isn't dead whilst they are around!

TwoOwlSocks · 26/06/2022 00:05

He is a genius, he has a great legacy, he changed music.

But his live performance is not enjoyable any more. He can't make the notes. He can't hold them. His voice is frail and croaky . No amount of knowing how great he is and was can make it pleasant to listen to. For me anyway. Sorry.

JaneJeffer · 26/06/2022 00:05

@WildThing87 I didn't see Lily Allen but I missed some of the beginning.

Not necessarily, Kate Bush ?

CuriousCatfish · 26/06/2022 00:06

Next year they need to get Cliff headlining.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2022 00:06

Foals rather !
Long day

@WildThing87 I didn't see Lily Allen but I missed some of the beginning.

I think it was at the end of her set. They sang Lilys song F*ck You, and dedicated it to the us Supreme Court... sooo may not have been BBC's cup of tea

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2022 00:07

Not Cliff ! I wouldn't sit up past my bedtime for him.
..

littlbrowndog · 26/06/2022 00:07

Guess phones gone off again. Jeez

Octomore · 26/06/2022 00:08

Fair point re: Kate Bush

Fuck, why can't Kate headline? Nostalgia and current all at once. The perfect package.

BetsyJameson · 26/06/2022 00:08

@Sparklingbrook @WildThing87 I’ll put up with another hour of this to see Bruce! Pity he can’t just take over and perform his own songs.

the80sweregreat · 26/06/2022 00:08

How do you charge up your phone in a field ?
Do they have special areas with leads ?
