Come and reminisce on the land of the mundane, where every plot happens daily in real life and couldn't be more plausible. From the guy who spent years tied to a chair behind a two-way mirror watching his evil twin seduce his wife who never noticed a thing until they shagged, while down the road a bitter ex broke into a hospital to tamper with skin samples to make her love rival believe she had a disfiguring illness. Where plots take three weeks to advance five minutes in story time and the blonde woman with the stolen baby got replaced by a completely different actress halfway through, but the whole narrative was so disjointed anyway that nobody even noticed. And more!

You know you loved it. Come and let's talk!

Whoever did Meg’s Brest implants should be struck off!

I was reading the wiki page, still haven't finished but will go back to it.

I can't see it mentioned but apparently there was a TV film called Sunset Beach: Shockwave

Did anyone see that?

marmiteadict · 27/06/2022 13:54

Shockwave was just a plot during the regular show.

There was an earthquake in Sunset beach. Half the cast were in peril in the main town.

The other half were on a cruise ship which was overturned and also left them in peril.

Pairs were stuck together and were dependent on each other to get to safety. Most pairs were people who hated each other such as Tim and Ben, Annie and Olivia etc.

Someone got their leg bit off by a shark. But it was ok because they had been mean to Meg's sister over an affair she had

I was literally obsessed with sb back in the day! I wrote in and got my comment read out by Pauline (I think that was her name) the ch5 continuity announcer, she sent me a signed photo! The storylines were just bonkers, I'm sure they were taking the piss out of that genre of programme. Random cast changes, so much cosmetic surgery, Meg and her zig zag parting and backcombed hair 😂I can't believe no one has mentioned aunt Bette yet, she was hilarious. Used to set the video recorder every day and watch it after I got back from school and then watch the omnibus on Saturdays. Got my mum hooked on it too.Ahhh happy memories!

Aunt Bette was amazing!

I'm just up to Cole and Caitlin's wedding - Cole, Caitlin and Olivia all went to give confession to Father Antonio on the same day, all in a row "Bless me father for I have sinned..."

InconvenientPeg · 28/06/2022 10:14

Came rushing in, all hopeful it was being shown somewhere 🤣

I went to a marketing show where a video company were promoting their VHS tapes that could be loaded with your promo video and given away. They'd used sunset beach as one of their samples (must've had really cheap royalties) and they got cleaned out of all the samples with it on. They had piles of whatever the other example was left over 🤣 if you had been lucky enough to get one, people were walking up and asking where you'd got it from!

Thanks! I saw the 'tv film' on Cole actor's profile when I was looking them all up.

Apparently Meg was played by a new actress in 1999. At least there are two Meg Cummings listed.

I remember the CH5 presenter was funny, but Ben's wife being Dumbo because of her ears was slightly mean (he said he could see why she usually had her hair down after an episode where it was tied back!). Though Caitlin, the first one, was Piggy because of her facial features, apparently!

After I discovered that SB was on YouTube I went down a bit of a nostalgia wormhole, and now I follow a bunch of the actors on Insta. A bunch of them are still friends (Gabi, Maria, Francesca, Ricardo, Antonio, and some more) and it's adorable. I guess most of them do the occasional TV guest spot or indie film and then do other stuff like fitness or maybe writing or producing. I saw the actor who played Casey (the blond lifeguard) on an episode of Law and Order, with a shaved head and looking very dignified and mature.

The actors who played Ben and Meg (my personal faves) both had not great things happen and quit acting. The actress who played Meg survived some personal tragedy where she lost both her parents in an especially traumatic way, and dropped out of sight entirely. But she married a guy whose dad owns a movie studio - I remember their relationship starting with kind of a scandal but they're still married decades later and I think had a child, so she's probably set for life. The British actor who played Ben and Derek took a year off acting after the show ended to travel, his wife got pregnant with twins, he couldn't find work and ended up having to move to Canada to shoot some schlocky sci-fi show, and his marriage ended amongst rumours of infidelity, and I think roles dried up. I remember when the press was calling him a future James Bond!

Literally why do I know all this I could have become a world expert on particle physics or archaeology with the brain cells all this stuff is lodged in.

I used to think that Ben looked more like James Bond than any of the actual James Bonds! Could never get my head around a blonde James Bond... it just doesn't work!
