Netflix doc about the Fundamentalist Mormons and what the actual fuck. I’ve seen a documentary about Warren Jeffs before but it didn’t cover any of this. I’m on episode two and it’s blowing my mind. Anyone else seen it?

Just started it. It's absolutely horrific, so messed up.

It really bothered me. I think it gets worse with each episode!

The men are monsters, marrying young teenage girls and grooming them at that horrible Zion camp. Fucking disgusting.

I’m absolutely aghast. Torn between looking away and thinking they deserve their stories to be heard.

It’s a cult. Jeffs is a sadistic delusional horrifying cult leader. The women are incredible. To have maintained the conviction and gumption they did in the face of no power at all and the threat of homelessness and starvation if you run, having spent your entire life in such a bubble, just remarkable. Testament to the human spirit.

Id love to watch this but alas I havent got netflix.
Read Escape by Carolyn Jessop. And Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall. Both excellent and enlightening about the FLDS.

Exactly. While this was going on I was a carefree student studying the dark old days of American literature and this was taking place as if no progress had ever been made.

They didn’t know who the American president was and so many people knew what was happening to them and couldn’t have given a toss.

I found it interesting just how drastically yet slowly and subtly Jeffs got hold of them all. Changing the dress code from covered to those floor length pastel robe dresses with ankle length underwear. Moving them all to one town. Removing the colour red. Gradually closing them right off. Terrifying just how easily someone can be conditioned and brainwashed.

I was also thinking how flipping hot Short Creek / Colorado City is. It’s in the desert. Having to dress like that. Of course the men can be comfy.

You really do wonder how the hell it could be allowed to happen. Not that the FLDS stand alone as a dangerous cult.

Warren Jeffs voice is freaky. It sounds demonic. What a creep. I’m glad he’s locked up for good but god help those still under his spell. The rearranging of all those families, men with so many wives and children. The inbreeding that’s been spoken of is awful too, I’m surprised that didn’t really come up in the show.

Yes it's also blown my mind and I can't see the difference between his their framework and those of other religions in the main stream, that tell women what to do, want to cut women, tell women what to wear, make them second class citizens.
It's brought this absolutely horrific control systems into sharp relief.
People living in a two tier systems and a world within a world where people don't know their rights.
Two legal system, Dodgy marriage's.

I watched it all last week. Horrific. And horrific that people are still in it and believe in it.

Shocked at the end as well when they revealed many still living within the cult including the mothers of girls he abused

Warren Jeff's is a hideous specimen. I have so much respect for those who broke away and played their part in his downfall. They're now separated from their families who are still "in".

I watched it, the last episode made me sick to my stomach. I’m surprised they didn’t say more about the inbreeding but I guess that might be more offensive in a way to the victims of it?

Isn't anyone raised in this way in a cult?

The scary thing is he's still controlling it all from behind bars. I watched a bit of Escaping Polygamy on prime which is about helping people get out of a similar group to flds called the order and they also helped a couple of sisters escape flds. They said things have got worse since he went to prison, he's banned children from having toys, married couples from having sex, all presumably because he doesn't want anyone happy while he's stuck inside. They believe if they do as he says he will be released from prison.

And it all led back to warrens bed in this temple.
The must elaborate temple to peadophlia where women are the commodity, and how many wife's you have is the path to heaven?

This two tier system shouldn't be allowed we are all supposed to be born free, this is what USA is supposed to offer.
They should all be in mainstream school getting a proper education.
