It's not until you see and hear Kirsty Young, that you have realised how much you have missed her. Welcome back and I hope you are recovering

Oh gosh, was she poorly?

Pebbles16 · 02/06/2022 20:34

She has fibromyalgia hence her giving up Desert Island Discs and other roles. I think she looks amazing and I just find her so authoritative, interested and calming

Absolutely, an excellent broadcaster, great on DID and such a marvellous voice.

ssd · 02/06/2022 20:37

I didnt realise that @Pebbles16. I remember her commentary on 9/11, she was so calm and collected and i think her dh was in NYC at the time too. I like her too.

prettycolours · 02/06/2022 20:44

I was just thinking earlier I hadn't seen her on anything in ages until today, I hadn't realised she was ill. I've always liked her.

upinaballoon · 02/06/2022 21:18

Yes, it's been good to see her and hear her again.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 02/06/2022 21:42

Completely agree.

I hadn’t realised she was I’ll either.

But it is wonderful to see her and hear her voice.

Kenwouldmixitup · 02/06/2022 21:46

A ‘second that’ from me. Really enjoy the episodes she fronted on DID, thoroughly researched and consequently she was having a proper conversation with the interviewee. Tom Hanks is the classic.

stilldumdedumming · 02/06/2022 21:48

Is she back on? Sorry for my ignorance. DID misses her greatly.
Such interesting interviews

SirChenjins · 02/06/2022 21:56

She’s great, isn’t she. Brilliant to see her again.

Lulu on the other hand…

I thought this exactly - how relaxing to hear her sensible talk 🙂

sashagabadon · 03/06/2022 14:49

Yes she is great. Hope she pops up more often on tv again

newnamethanks · 03/06/2022 14:55

Yes, I hope she's recovered well enough to work again, she has a calm and reassuring manner. Although she was sitting alongside the lake in St James's park; as dusk fell you could count the hundreds of mosquitoes! Urgh. Had to turn it off then, made me itch😀

iwanttobeasquare · 03/06/2022 14:58

I agree. And I hate to say it, as generally I always want to champion young women but I find Lauren Laverne painful to listen to on Desert Island Discs in comparison.

ExtremelyDedicated · 03/06/2022 15:01

She was brilliant on the Jubilee coverage yesterday, so good to have her back on air again, she has had a horrendous time.

the80sweregreat · 03/06/2022 15:08

Luckily I taped last nights one so I could by pass Lulu and Gloria hunniford
Who invited them ?

Clymene · 03/06/2022 18:46

I've just been listening to old DID episodes in the car. Kirsty was so, so good.

I have no idea what the bbc were thinking of giving the gig to LL but she isn't a journalist, she has zero ability to get people to open up to her and it's just been woeful since she started.

I'm sure she's a perfectly pleasant person but she's a musician who became a DJ. Apart from the fact that she's female and is on the bbc payroll, I can't think of any other relevant qualifications.

Popsicle33 · 03/06/2022 18:48

She has a beautiful voice. I can't bear listen to Laverne on DID. Her shoes were mighty!
